so is confirmed, Cañas will be the substitue. Then Roger will have even more chances to win the TMC, Baldy always was troublesome for Fedex

Canas actually sort of owns Federer ;) They have only played the once : in the last 64 of the 2002 Toronto Masters where Canas won 7-6 7-5!

just one match held two years ago, before Fedex explosion! as we say in spanish "una golondrina no hace verano". I meant one single match played 2 years ago IMO right now doesn't represents anything.

Yep maybe as Federer is obviously a changed player but since in the latter post US Open stages of the season Federer has been dogged with injury - missing Madrid, Basel, Paris etc. and Canas has really shone and come into his own - he is the in form player of the pair at the moment I feel.

There is a big chance that Canas might get to play some matches with the injuries that are going around at the moment. Hopefully he can make it as a full participant in the next one.

Nice that Canas will be there because a substitute player in case of emergency is needed, but I hope that he doesn't play any matches in Houston.

Would only have to be at the expense of the other 8 players, especially those who are said to have physical problems.

Great for Willy I am happy for him :yeah:

It would be great if he did play, however it would be a shame at the same time as that would mean someone would have to withdraw/retire for some reason or other.

Willy, you deserve that! :bigclap:, feel the air of TMC, even more chance of playing, then get preparation for the full paticipate in next 2005 :yeah:

as willy take over Andre to be the substitute, Mac has more reason to be mad :aplot:

Good for Canas, though I hope he doesn't actually get to play. I hope he qualifies directly next year.

I'm not surprised at all that Agassi refused the alternate spot.

I do wish that David had been feeling well enough for the alternate spot but the fact that it goes to Willy makes me :bounce: . I'm so proud of him for the year that he's had.

I hate having to hope that someone pulls out but because I really only root for 2 of the 8, I really hope that Willy can play a few matches.

I doubt Mac has heard about the Falklands as the conflict didn't involve the good old US of A

Random question - let's say one of the players gets hurt after going 1-1 in two matches. Willy subs in for him in the third round robin match and wins. Would the combined 2-1 record be worth a spot in the semis? And who would get to go?

I bet Mattress Mac never thought of that scenario.

Good for him for being the sub, but I hope nobody pulls out really.

i doubt he would want to be playing because of someone pulling out anyway (during the tournament i mean)

I think that if Canas subs anybody, he gets his own match stats and such, so he'll only be able to get points for a win but won't carry the stats left by the other player.

Agassi was never a threat to Federer for the TMC this year.

Agassi was never a threat to Federer for the TMC this year.
Andre almost beats Roger last year @ Houston. Andre almost beat Roger this year at USopen. The difference in both matches were just a couple of points.
That explains pretty clear why Andre would be a major threat to Roger this year @ Houston. Anyway since Andre is not gonna participate makes no sense to keep arguing about this subject.
