(A bit of a break from tennis discussion!!).

Yeah I watch it. A lot :o
Izzy is really growing on me now :scared:
Home and Away though... it got worse as I grew up. At least neighbours is kind of closer to reality. I don't know what kind of dumbass girl (Dani Sutherland) walks around a beach in a miniskirt and knee high leather boots

Hmmm I worked with Izzy on a charity event at the start of the year so I must admit, I have been watching it a lot more than I used to. Don't watch Home and Away, that show has just gone to crap. Yeaaahhhh Neighbours. Even still, I don't like it that much.

OK - I admit - I'm adicted to "Neighbours" :) Everyone's entitled to one vice.....that's obviously mine

The only thing worse then American soaps is Australian soaps, at least with American ones you can laugh at absurd storylines and the "stare" prior to every commercial break.

Sjengster
11-10-2004, 10:50 AM
Ah jezebel, you come up with the best threads, don't you?

Personally, having experienced all three, I can also add to Wyvern's point that the only thing worse than Australian soaps is British ones. Neighbours at least attempts to be both optimistic and realistic in tone (American soaps are lacking in the latter, and British soaps are lacking in both), although the constant use of the same half a dozen soundtracks over the last decade or so does get a bit wearing. I stopped watching it in the last couple of years... when Ms. Goodrem first made her appearance on the show, I had little idea that in a short space of time she would be known as a) a cancer sufferer, b) a chart-topping singer and c) most importantly of all, the Scud's most enduring squeeze. You don't think one of the younger male members of the cast is going to start dating Aussie Kim while she's on the rebound from Lleyton, do you?

I thought not...

no its not an attempt at a comedy show like friends (if you can even call friends a comedy?)
damn i hate that show friends, it is possibly the worst show i have ever seen. but then again, im not really a fan of most american comedy shows

I agree with you joeb - American comedy shows leave me cold too. Does seem that us Brits have a particular liking for "Neighbours" though doesn't it? Maybe because, as Sjengster says, our own home-grown soaps are soooo depressing. I gave up "EastEnders" eventually - it could drive you suicidal

The things that drive me suicidal are those troll posters!!! There again, it can become quite fun seeing them squirm! :)

Dirty Den makes me laugh. The best character is Jules! But Eastenders is crap at the mo.

EastEnders is so inherently ludicrous that it's impossible to feel suicidal about it after a while. The people I feel really sorry for are the ones who take it seriously - either those who treat it as an extension of their own life or, worse, those who believe it's actually realistic drama that provides an accurate portrait of life in London's working-class East End. Don't make me laugh. Sooner or later people are going to realise that the very format of soap operas prevents any kind of realism. The Americans came to that conclusion long ago, with satisfyingly escapist results.

What's home and away? Neighbours is crap. Coronation Street is the best. I feel I have known Ken Barlow all my life.

Neighbours is decent :)
Home and Away can be brillant (Angie  ) or crap
Bjorkman Girl I hate Dani too ;)

Eastenders used to be great but it's terrible now the only good person in it is Den and Sarah and they've gone/going
The Ferreira's and the Miller's :o :o  :fiery:

Coronation Street is good Maya :worship: :worship:

I thought the Ferreira's had gone - but guess that goes to prove I haven't watched it for a while! I pretty much gave it up when the ghastly Slater family joined - I wouldn't want anything to do with them in real life, so why invite them into my lounge 4 times a week :) Since then I've only watched occasionally (usually if a friend is here who wants to watch it) - "Neighbours" is much better :)

I cant even understand some of my own shows, Rosie, so you are not alone. Here in the US, Reality shows have taken over, for the most part. And, I've gotten so sick of that crap, anyway. There are a few good shows, here and there, but I mainly stick to watching sports and HBO these days.

Neighbours is a bit of light relief when you've come back from work/school etc

its nothing serious, the story lines are :rolls:, characters :tape:

give me Neighbours any day, much better than that dreadful dreary depressing Eastenders rubbish.

does anyone smile on that show ????
no wonder the suicide rate is going up with that piece of crap.

still...... Dynasty was the tops ;) and that mud fight between Emma Samms and Heather Locklear  ;)

TBE  about you on Neighbours

On the topic of Amercian shows
Friends is crap and over-rated
Sex and the City gets boring after a while (although my best mate goes on about how wonderful both shows are :o)

Will and Grace - Now that is funny :haha: :haha:

"Dynasty" - LOL - showing your age there TBE - but don't worry - I remember it too - especially the one where Fallon was supposedly abducted by aliens  And what about the infamous Bobby in the shower from "Dallas". Those where the days when I actually enjoyed watching TV!

Yeah, I also think Sex and the City gets boring. I was watching every episode when it started, now here is the last season shown and I haven't watched any of its episodes until now.

I know almost every Friends episode, so that's boring too *gg*.

I LOVE Will and Grace. It's the best show of all I think! :D

Rosie I'm the same age as you ;)
i prefered Dynasty over Dallas.

did you see the mid 90's two part thingy where Krystle was smuggled out of a Swiss mental institute

Alexis in mid-air swiveling over Dexter as they both fell over balcony and she landed on top of him, he died, she survived

Ah - Dexter - I'd forgotten about Dexter - I had a crush on him at one stage!!! I actually preferred "Dallas" to "Dynasty" - but let's not forget those wonderful "spin-offs" - the "Colbys" and "Knots Landing" They were great! And I'm glad that you're the same age as me - sometimes I feel positively ancient on this Board - biologically I'm old enough to be the mother of many of these posters - and that scares me!!

I used to watch neighbours many many years ago. I loved Mrs. Mangle :haha:

I've never followed Eastenders, but it seems to be very popular in the UK. Didn't an important soccer match get postponed 15 or 30 minutes because of an epsisode of Eastenders last year?

I used to follow Dallas and Dynasty too. I'm younger then you TBE and Rosie, but blame my mom ;)
Nowadays I just follow As the World Turns
