Horatio Caine 11-08-2004, 04:25 PM Oh dear - none of you guys are answering the question! Joeb - you know me too well! :) Horatio Caine 11-08-2004, 04:31 PM Okay okay - i'll give you guys a start! Hrbaty - aka Chipmunk. He has made the French Open semis once and is pretty talented :)) MisterQ 11-08-2004, 04:36 PM Haas Grosjean Henman tennisman. 11-08-2004, 04:40 PM Tim Henman Horatio Caine 11-08-2004, 04:44 PM Haas Grosjean Henman Yeah Sebby is definitely a leading candidate - didn't he have about 3 match points against Clement to get to the Aussie Open final? Chloe le Bopper 11-08-2004, 05:31 PM Yeah Sebby is definitely a leading candidate - didn't he have about 3 match points against Clement to get to the Aussie Open final? 2, I think. My memory has him serving for it at 5-3 40-15... I may have missed another one ;) crouching 11-08-2004, 05:32 PM I don't know what "best" means, as it's so subjective, so I will use a numerical indicator - highest-ever rankings. Talking about players from around the past ~10 years, we have these former or current top 10 players.... No. 2 Haas No. 4 Henman, Bjorkman, Kiefer, Grosjean, Forget No. 5 Novak No. 6 Ferreira , N. Lapentti, Kucera No. 9 Rosset, Srichaphan, Massu No. 10 Gustafsson , Larsson, Mantilla (Those are the ones I can remember) TennisLurker 11-08-2004, 05:34 PM henman, ferreira, jose luis clerc TennisLurker 11-08-2004, 05:35 PM haas Laury 11-08-2004, 05:41 PM Guillermo Cañas I also agree with José Luis Clerc. I don't think Nico or Paradorn have so far deserved to get to a Grand Slam final. Just my opinion! :) crouching 11-08-2004, 06:30 PM Nah - sorry! I don't think Nico or Paradorn have so far deserved to get to a Grand Slam final. Just my opinion! :) I didn't say whether they deserved to get to a final or otherwise. I'm just stating that these are the current or former Top 10 players from the past ~10 years who have not made a Slam final. That's an objective criterion, not a subjective one such as whether one "deserves" it. mitalidas 11-08-2004, 06:32 PM I didn't say whether they deserved to get to a final or otherwise. Tommy Haas was #2 within the last few years -- he should be mentioned in this group joeb_uk 11-08-2004, 06:56 PM Oh dear - none of you guys are answering the question! Joeb - you know me too well! :) The jezza rampages are always enjoyable :) propi 11-08-2004, 06:57 PM From the Spanish gold generation (I use to call them like that Corretja, Costa, Mantilla, Moya, Berasategui) it's just Mantilla the one who lacks it... I usually considered him not as talented as Costa but a harder worker... however in 98 and 99 I remember that I was almost sure he'd achieve RG final... of course I'm still waiting... but who knows... I was also angry when Bjorkman lost in semis in USO and before him Kucera :fiery: Domino 11-08-2004, 11:37 PM Ferreira, nobody else besides Haas comes close in playing ability, and his wins against Sampras qualify as some of the best matches I have seen. Two Masters Series titles, and a very well-rounded career. Horrible temper though, but I always thought his game was very nice to watch with its serve-and-volley basis, but he also had a full arsenel and could play on any surface. Fedex 11-09-2004, 01:16 AM Haas, Grosjean, Henman and many more that I cant think of right know. -ernie- 11-09-2004, 01:27 AM Why Tim Henman of Course! how magical..........but David Nalbandian is quite good also!!! what a flabbergasting decision! MisterQ 11-09-2004, 01:30 AM Why Tim Henman of Course! how magical..........but David Nalbandian is quite good also!!! what a flabbergasting decision! It seems like Nalbandian does fit into these players who have yet to really make their mark... but remember that he already made a GS final (Wimbledon 2002). ;) Fedex 11-09-2004, 01:53 AM Nalbandian would almost qualify, but he has been in a GS final before. LiZpHaIr 11-09-2004, 03:29 AM Henman and Ferriera-nobody deserved to be a grand slam champ more than Wayne. WyveN 11-09-2004, 03:46 AM I agree about Ferreira Marc Rosset is Tall 11-09-2004, 06:23 AM Ferreira Rosset Pavel Grosjean Canas K. Carlsson Daniel 11-09-2004, 07:12 AM Ferreira David Kenzie 11-09-2004, 09:30 AM I don't know what "best" means, as it's so subjective, so I will use a numerical indicator - highest-ever rankings. FryslanBoppe 11-09-2004, 09:36 AM Larsson reached the French Open final, or are you talking about another Larsson ? He lost in the semis sadly and never made a final of a Slam. Fergie 11-09-2004, 10:41 AM Tommy Haas ;) David Kenzie 11-09-2004, 11:21 AM He lost in the semis sadly and never made a final of a Slam. Sorry I was thinking of Magnus Norman dunno why. MissPovaFan 11-09-2004, 11:28 AM Of the current crop of players it has to be Tim Henman for me. -ernie- 11-09-2004, 12:28 PM Nalbandian would almost qualify, but he has been in a GS final before. OH YES! How could i miss that one? Thats right, I missed read the thread, that is what i did, i was thinking in my head about the best players who HAVENT won a slam.
