Who are you hoping will make a fresh start in 2005?

There were a lot of players this season who either were bugged by injuries or just never reached their best form consistently. Im hoping players like David Nalbandian (the Mauresmo of the ATP), Schuettler, Clement, Kuerten, Grosjean, Ferrero, Nieminen and Gambill (even tho he's totally hopeless  ) can make fresh starts next year.

cmon guys, do us proud in 2005!!!!

Nalbandian ended this year fairly well, all things considered. I would like to see Ferrero string more than two matches in a row again.

Well, Guga for sure. :)

Joachim .... cause his year ended on a bit of a down note
Coria ... for obvious reasons
Andy .... cause I think he didn't fulfill his real potential this year
Juan Carlos ... I feel so bad for him this year.

I would like David to come back strong in 05.

Guga--he hasn't been the same for years...

Juan Carlos--he was soooo disappointing this year; every time he seemed to get his act together, he would fall off...

Most of all, I hope Kiefer starts fresh into the new year :) best would be if he started even better than he ended 2004

Yeah, Rainer also needs a fresh year 2005!!! :rocker2: :yeah:  COME ON!

And of course, Coria! I'm not his biggest fan, but I admire him for his fighting spirit and for trying to improve all the time on all surfaces and for getting so many good results on hardcourt and grass. AWESOME! He is among the best tennis players and belongs on the tour. My unrestrained credits go to him for what he has achieved despite all his injury problems :worship:

I agree with Neely... Kiefer was on a great run till he got hurt in the Open... I think Kiefer is gonna be fantastic in 2005. And yes, Rainer needs a fresh start.

As a player who likes playing indoor, he could have been a mighty FORCE during indoor season in his great form :sobbing: :sobbing:

I wish every player who was out injured a great fresh start in 2005. :yeah:
I'll give two players who haven't been mentioned yet a place in the spotlight.
Sjeng Schalken hasn't been able to play consistently since Roland Garros, suffering from Pfeiffers disease.
Martin Verkerk won't return until April next year due to a shoulder injury. Hopefully he can present himself to the world again at Roland Garros 2005!
All the best to these two, and everybody else mentioned in this thread!

I agree with Frooty. Mostly I'm hoping Jarkko can start afresh :-/ He really needs some more confidence! And I'm hoping that my two guys (in my sig) can get over their shoulder problems  and play to their potential...whether it be on grass only, LOL, or other surfaces!

I think Taylor definitely needs to make a fresh start in 2005.At the start of the year,I backed him to make the top 10 but he got mauled by Andy Roddick in the Aussie Open and then seemed to lose confidence for the rest of the year.He looked pretty impressive in the Madrid Masters and hopefully he can have a much better year in 2005.He's a better player than number 33 in the world.

Pfeiffers disease.

Pardon my ignorance but what is that?

Yeah - Rainer couldn't do much worse than he did this year so the ball is in his court (see what i did there!) - good luck to him.

Good luck also to: -

Nicolas Kiefer - hope his wrist heals and his excellent form continues
Sjeng Schalken - come back!!!
Juan - Carlos Ferrero - you've played like a horse with an apple stuck up its arse recently so get back into shape!
Greg Rusedski - keep going and smile nicely at the ATP officials
Tim Henman - his game is nice to watch and it is needed at the top end to retain fans' interests, plus the small matter that he's British (Rusedski too - sort of :) )

I understand Pfeiffer's disease is the Dutch name for what we Brits call Glandular Fever and the Americans call "mono". As for my nominations:-

David - obviously :)
Rainer Schuettler
Nicolas Keifer
Sjeng Schalken
Juan-Carlos Ferrero
Agustin Calleri

I want to see Coria back in the circuit too, you won't believe this, but I kind of miss him :)

I forgot a few players in my first posting...

I miss Verkerk very much, he's the kind of player I like much. I don't think that he will have again such outstanding French Open like 2003, but I hope for him much that he can play next season and get some good results. Spoedige beterschap, Martin!

Also Escudé would be nice if he was back healthy. Great player, talented player, nice style, I like to watch him playing every time. He started the year so fantastic with his win in Doha, but then struggled again and injury problems caught up to this great player again in the middle of the year.

Best of luck to these long-time injured players for a better 2005.

Ferrero, I pray he can get back to his best, its been awful for him this year

Mark P, well it can't get any worse can it.

Nalbandian, had some good results considering, but certainly should be able to fulfil his potential more if he's fit.

And Guga, I hope he can somehow manage to regain old form.

Guga, I missed his golden years so I really want to see him playing his A tennis, plus he's brazilian :P
I'd really like to see Coria, Kiefer, Ferrero and Mirnyi to have a better year in 2005. Ricardo Mello to continue to show his good form like in the US Open, Delray Beach and Shanghai and maybe he'll get into the TOP50, TOP30 if possible. Moyá, because since the USO he has lost almost all his matches o_O and Robredo, to get a way into the TOP10.

Hm, and Federer to maintain his reign and supremacy in tennis world :p

Ferrero will do well next year, a great player like him won't get sidetracked like phillippoussis. I'm looking forward to some great rivalries next year between Ferrero and other players, especially federer. Ferrero will kick ass, and he will win another grand slam (hopefully he'll win all the grand slams) but he will have another great year, it can't get much worse then this year for him. VAMOS JUANQUI. Also i hope all the other players who were injured this year have a good year next year

Yeah i completely forgot about Nick there! J'espere que tu recuperais tres vite Nicolas!

He is one of those annoying players that rank alongside Nalbandian and Canas because they never seem beaten until the last ball has been struck. Fun to watch though, in most circumstances! :)

Get well soon Martin too. :)

All my wishes are for Sebastien to come back fresh and motivated to play again. I still don't know exactly why he pulled the plug on the end of this year, and I don't believe he is planning to return until after the AO... but when he does, I hope SO much that everything goes well and that he can also stay injury-free!

Other big mentions to Juan Carlos who has had a shocker of a year with injuries and Chicken Pox. It would be great to see Nalby start a fresh year with some of the late form he has picked up in recent weeks.

Also important (to me) is that Jerome Golmard can try to string some tennis together without an injury... he is THE most injury-prone player I think in existance! He is not getting any younger (in tennis years) and I would like his last few years on the tour to be somewhat decent.

please god... mark philippoussis!

i seriously will not cope if he doesnt start to turn things around... im hoping that as mark blew out his 28 candles this week he realised its now or never. the aussie press have been relentless in bagging him out all year so it would be nice for mark to start the year strong and stick it back to em'.

Peter McNamara (aussie legend) said the other day he still feels mark is the 2nd most talented player on tour after Federer, but because mark isnt putting in the work he's not getting the results. A good solid off-season is whats needed, and it needs to happen this year!
