BrunoBeidacki
08-22-2012, 02:49 AM
Yeah, I know, but Clezar has a game. If he can play his best, he may be a surprise. If not, he'll be defeated easily. We can't forget that he won a Challenger in Hard-Court, even being a Clay Court player, defeating some pretty good players. Well, it's better for him that he is the underdog and Odesnik is the favorite. If he loses easily... it was expected, if he plays well and surprise, he did amazing. Anyway, he is only 19 and he has a bright future ahead of him, I can only congratulate him for being brave enough to play the US Open qualies knowing that he would probably lose in the first round... everything for experience!

A few impressions from qualies yesterday:

- Wang-Delbonis: Best hitting I saw all day. Wang played very intelligent match. Surprised Delbonis with his huge forehand and strong serve isnt more of a factor on hardcourts. Too bad on this draw because either guy would have beaten 99% of the guys I saw yesterday.

- Alves-Polansky: Polansky far better player. One mental lapse at 4-1 up in the first but otherwise dictated the match. Alves very poor most of the day.

- Meffert-Elias: Elias horrible. Just bad body language, too many UE's. Meffert took care of business, nothing special.

- Gonzalez-Dustov: Never had seen Dustov before. Weird game. Should serve harder for a guy his size. Gonzalez played well in first set to exploit his advantage off the ground. Dont see him winning too many more matches though.

- Skugor-Sandgren: Missed first two sets, but very even match in third. Sandgren with ridiculous recovery on match point that clipped the tape with Skugor at net. Too bad on the injuries for Skugor because I like his game and think he'd definitely be a good player.

- Chvojka-Mannarino: What happened to Mannarino? I remember him being a decent player a few years back. Chvojka fought very hard, ultimately Mannarino more talented and deserved to win. So many UE's though and he has a tough section of the draw - will need to get better to qualify.

- Zverev-Ilhan: Was going to watch all of this but Ilhan was so poor I left. No idea how he decided to play so bad. Worst I've ever seen from him.

Thanks for that ibreak4coffee, its really important to know whos in form and whos not. Just watching the scoreboard isnt going to tell us anything.
Now that youve seen the players, can you also give tips about next matches on who looks good to beat who?

That's always tricky but :D

- Rosol should beat Gonzalez in straights
- Polansky to beat Bagnis probably in two
- Zemjla to beat Middelkoop in straights
- Very tough on Menendez-Maceiras and Mertens
- Gojowczyk to beat Cervantes in three
- Mannarino will beat Meffert in two
- Wang easy over Devilder

Other matches didnt see both players enough to make an educated guess.

What do you think about Sousa vs. Mello? I think this match will be very interesting.
Mello isn't at his best and Sousa is playing with a lot of confidence. And, beside that, Jo„o Sousa is a better player in hard court than Ricardo. It can be interesting, but Sousa is the favourite.

- Mannarino will beat Meffert in two
- Wang easy over Devilder

Thats interesting because Mannarino seems to be the early underdog against Meffert according to bwin, odds 1.90.
Wang on the other hand is 1.57 to beat the Devil. Only bwin has odds for these so far.

Thanks for the reports :yeah: Happy to see Wang playing well, I really hope he can qualify like he did at Wimbledon. He's so talented and underranked atm, but after been out for around 2/3 years due to injury, it's already nice to see him playing again.

Jo„o Sousa is a better player in hard court than Ricardo.

I'm not sure about that. Mello's best surface has always been hard courts. Even if he's on decline now, I think he's still slight favourite against Sousa on HC. I've always seen Sousa like a really good player on clay, but hasn't done much on hard courts yet.

My assumption is based on the fact that Meffert didn't have to play super well to win yesterday. Mannarino certainly wasn't in top form, but I can't imagine he'll play as bad as he did yesterday, and that should be enough for him to win. But what do I know? Just a random spectator at the Open

Hard is the best surface of Ricardo, but he was bad in hard court season. In grand slams, he usually plays well, so I hope he plays well today too. I think Sousa is a little bit favorite, but not too much.

Vamos, Ricardo! :)

I didn't said that Ricardo's best surface wasn't hard, because it is. But Sousa's uses his good serve in hard to hold more easily.

Don't see whats so funny. He had BPs in first set just didn't convert, can play HC, has a powerful serve, main problem in consistency and bad UE, obviously Berrer dropped his level, Sergio started to play better. Ferrol can move him around the court, Berrer serve ain't that effective here, all in all, nice win for Ferrol.

You don't see what's funny about losing a match you were leading 62 51*. Really?

My comment had nothing to do with Gutierrez-Ferrol's ability and everything to do with one of the biggest chokes of 2012.

Nothing new, I personally was expecting a tighter match from the start, lots of Berrers games went to 30-30, combine choking with a better level from opponent, advantage melts quickly.

Aratxa Rus choked 6-3 *5-1 to lose 3-6 7-5 6-0 week ago. Now that's a choke, Berrer snached a couple games more.
