Max d. Gonzalez 7-6, 6-3 :)

Well done Max!! :bounce:

Max has won 4 matches in 5 days beating Gasquet, Hanescu, Arazi and Gonzalez in straight sets and he has won 12 of his last 16 matches. He plays Andy tomorrow who is coming back after a few weeks lay-off. This is their head to heads -

2003 Cincinnati SF Hard (O) A.RODDICK 6-7(5) 4-6
2003 Madrid 32 Hard (I) A.RODDICK 1-6 7-6(9) 5-7
2004 Cincinnati 64 Hard (O) A.RODDICK 7-6(5) 6-7(5) 3-6

Max has been very close to winning in their last two matches. With Max on a good run on these courts, can he finally edge out Andy?

Davai Max!

I'll root for The Beast tomorrow! :bounce:
It might be a tough match for the Duckman, but he was very impressive against Sargsian, so Roddick shouldn't have too much problems with Mirnyi.

Mirnyi is unlikely to pull out a win, but he will either tenderise Roddick for future opposition or kickstart him into prime form.

Or maybe it will all descend into a four-hour plus baseline grind, finally decided by a flip of a coin. With no rally lasting less than ten strokes. Ahem. :retard:

Well I think it's safe to say it'll be a tight match.:p Though Andy always seems to come through in the end, and he's the better player. Andy wins, probably in straights. Regardless of the outcome, nice week for Max though.:yeah:

:retard: What's up with the tank in the second set. He seems to have a knack at tanking at the final TMS events (last year to Massu in Madrid) Good win for Max, terrible loss for Andy, and moving along to Houston.:drive:

Black Adam

i think that it was probably a hostile public so i think he didn't mind tanking so that he could make it earlier to houston.

Raquel
11-04-2004, 04:28 PM
Well I saw the match and I don't think Andy tanked but he kept looking over at Brad as if he didn't know what to do out there. The commentators were saying he just looked lost and couldn't handle the lack of rhythm Max was giving him today which is unusual as he handled it in their last 3 matches OK. Max was great today though - really happy for him :)

He shouldn't have given up anyways. His #2 spot was on the line here, he should have tried more, but he just felt like being a tanker.

I'd be interested to know how many people who are calling a tank actually *saw* the match? Because I didn't, and I would like to know whose comments on the match are worth looking at or not ;)

"He tanked the second set", "the public was hostile"... what next?

As for tanking the 2nd set I wouldn't say it was a tank, he was bamboozled by the brilliance of the Beast on the given day. Max mixed his serve up, volleyed very well and only made 5 unforced errors.

Lets say if this match was in North America or specifically the US, he would have tried harder than he did, and he didn't get the crowd to get him through this match.

He couldn't hit a backhand passing shot at all, and he got some practice for Houston.

Oh don't get me wrong I am and I do watch the matches on tv when I get the chance (sometimes I'm at school when it's on tv and forget to tape it) though now with this golf tournament taking over our sports channel, I don't know if they'll actually stick to it and show tennis at a regular time, not abnormal ones.

Today was one of the best matches that Mirnyi ever played. Given that their last matches has been very hard, this wasn't anything surprising. Mirnyi served and volleyed like the hell, this coupled with the average passing ability of Roddick, was more than enough to knockout Roddick. He probably would had defeat almost anyone that could be on the other side of the court. In my opnion this was the best match of anyone until now in the tournament, and if he keeps this level, he becomes the number one favorite
