As`far as I know Marat still has to win 1 match in Paris and Tim 2 matches to become definites. Andre's absence will eliminate one scenario, but neither Nalbandian nor Andre were major factors in the race to MC.
It is Coria, Safin & Henman...still, as far as I know. Nothing about the race being over on either Reuters or Google Sports.

Of course it's over. There were 3 spots unclaimed, 5 possibles. If two of those possibles withdraw, then the other 3 (Coria, Safin and Henman) get the places.

Should Coria and Federer withdraw, they will be replaced, of course, with Agassi getting in first and then Nalbandian. But the race is a done deal.

So, pending no withdrawals due to injury it will be: Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Gaudio, Moya, Coria, Safin and Henman.

The race can not be over when no-one knows for certain who will withdraw due to injury; there are at least four players who are suspect.

Definitely!! Juan Carlos as well!

Plus, that's only one year. Someone should do the 2003 list as well and see if the same people "perpetrated" absences. It's not like most of these players make *habit* out of missing these tournaments, for the most part. For example, I know Andy played all 9 last year.

It's too bad the exciting race ended like this  But Hopefully both players will get well soon in case they do get the opportunity to play. Andre should still be the alternate and should still be invited to Houston, no?

thanks Judio!! :smooch: So as you see, Andy, Roger, JCF, Guille and Carlos all did better last year than this year. Let's hope they do better next year and that this year was unusual. :)

The schedule and arrangement of tournaments is of course discussable and there could be always rooms for improvements, but the thing that I wouldn't change is that you FIRST the Paris TMS and THEN have "mickey mouse" events. IMO it's good that the last tournament before the Mastes Cup is a TMS because, if the race to Houston is close, it's more interesting when the players with remaining Masters Cup chances battle it out in the TMS.

Okay, it didn't work this season, but in general, I'm considering it as more interesting when the players who still have a chance to qualify for Houston, compete for these last spots at the same location.
IMO this is better than if the last tournaments and the last chance to gain points to make it to the Masters Cup are spread over different locations.

So I'm quite happy that we have one final TMS for all players that eligable to play as a last tournament before we go to the Masters Cup.

I think that's a good point, Neely. And if Agassi and Nalbandian had played we could have had that battling out here. Also it's interesting if the number one spot is up for grabs too. :)

I hope not! Surely it can't be, not until Melbourne, at least?

Edit: oops, I see what you mean, you had me scared for a minute then! Yes, it is more interesting if the number one spot is up for grabs during the last couple of tournaments of the year.

With Fedrerer as your favorite, you can be calm and relaxed. I think he could not play again this year and be just fine. He must be feeling pretty relaxed with the lead he has. I think he just wants to take the Masters Cup trophy to show the other guys that they aren't even nearly in his class. ;)

I like having TMS Paris as the final event.

Do people remember TMS Paris in 2001? If I remember correctly, Kafelnikov, Safin, Henman, Haas and Grosjean were fighting for places the last two places.

Kafelnikov confirmed his place after he won a couple of rounds and Safin and Henman lost really early. Both Safin and Henman were eliminated from contention because of their early losses.

Haas and Grosjean were then neck-and-neck, fighting for the 8th TMC place. Grosjean was 34 points behind Haas. Haas and Grosjean met in the semis, so Grosjean had to beat Haas in the semi-final, and then win the title to qualify for the TMC...

In the end, Grosjean won the semi, and then beat Kafelnikov in the final... Quite a splendid achievement, and what great drama!

It was highly unlikely that Agassi was going to qualify anyway, it was too much of an ask after going deep in 2 consecutive tournaments and not winning them and then having to put together another run in Paris....

I was at TMS Paris in 2001 and remember other things of it. Safin ended the year ranked 11 I think and Hewitt never made it past the 2nd round. Kafelnikov certainly did cause that was the last time he reached a TMS final if I remember correctly ;)

David on being an alternate:
"No puedo pensar en eso ahora. Si se diera, bienvenido, pero no creo que los que consiguieron un lugar vayan a perdérselo. Seguro que después estarán todos"
"I can't think about that now. If I had the chance, it would be nice, but I don't think that ones that got their places would want to miss it. I'm sure that at the end, everyone will be there"
