Agassi def. Haas 7-6(5) 7-6(4)

It seemed to be ANOTHER great match between those two, especially the first set was crazy and was a brilliant example.

I couldn't even watch this match, but it was even fun following it at the scoreboard only ;)

Congrats Andre!
He can keep really his hope for the Masters Cup alive with this win...

Congrats Tommy for a great end of an already anyway very remarkable season by making it to this semifinal.
Maybe he has a few more wins left for the Paris TMS.

That Sounds like a good match, I was scrolling a bit in the thread of the tournament and this was strange how many break points and opportunitys they had in the first set.
In the next set not much.
Agassi come throuigh finally, does not surprise me much, he is still with very high game.
I hope more for Johansson in the finals, but Agassi might win it.

I just saw a couple of minutes' highlights on German tv and it looked like an awesome match with some great rallies. The crowd gave both players a standing ovation at the end. Even Tommy didn't look too unhappy to be at the losing end of the score

It was on at the end of "Sportstudio" on ZDF, only a summing-up really, no interviews or anything. If Tommy plays next year the way he was playing in that match, he'll be in the top 10 for sure. I think there's a great chance that there will be at least 2 Germans in the top 10 next year, and another 2 not far outside :D

I wish I were more of an Agassi fan. I only rooted for him when he was playing Sampras and Duckboy.

Yes, that phrase is particularly popular around here, but its not just Bilbo who uses it.

"I watched Agassi and Haas today and that was one of the best live matches I have ever seen"

Sorry to say, but Johansson really has no chance in this match; his game plays right into Agassi's.

:woohoo: :bounce: Came back from a long day and I'm so happy to hear the score!

Tommy is such a good player, but it seems that Andre's court positioning helps give him the slightest edge. I remember back in Rome 2002 Tommy was sooo far behind the baseline. But of course that is a different surface too...

It doesnt matter if its on clay, with Haas. He usually plays far behind the baseline, which, yes, it does give Agassi the edge in their matches.

OMG, I know what you mean. :worship:
I taped the Sportstudio while I was away and it was really worth taping it today just for these few minutes of recap.

That would have been a match for us to watch live on TV instead of Basel coverage.

Almost every point they showed was incredible. This was baseline power and baseline pitching at its best. It looked as if they both searched the lines and didn't hold anything back. They both chased one another all over the full width of the court during a long rally and when you thought Agassi had the advantage because he played an unbelievable crosscourt angle, Haas got to it and hit a winner with an even more incredible angle. Even doing almost a splits didn't help Andre to reach this ball.
They also showed some running backhand winner of Haas ;)
Or what they said the "fastest return of the day" when Haas served and Agassi was already waiting at the right spot and just brushed over the ball with full power. This return was enormously well hit and speed-wise it looked as if Roddick threw down an ace with full power
Haas wasn't swearing about this shot because he knew it is Agassi and they both applauded each other several times for great shots and winners. That was pure respect between those two.

After the match at the net, it looked as if they both knew what a great match they played. The crowd was also very happy with that match.

"If tomorrow's final is just about half as good as this semifinal, all visitors can be sure to see a great match then". Certainly true this final comment.

Wow that sounds excellent, Neely, thanks for those details. :) These two have played some unbelievable matches this year, but I hope Haas wins the next match these two play; Andre is getting to far ahead in the h2h. ;) 6-3 Agassi, I think.

You're always welcome, Fedex.
Yes, this match certainly didn't look like a crap match and the reporter said they had trouble selecting highlights from the whole match; not because nothing happened, but because it was just tough to select from all this good stuff.

I hate matches like this where you like both players and don't look forward to either one losing. I agree that Tommy has had a remarkable career this year considering all the hardships he's had last year, so he can be proud of his performance. :yeah: I desperately want Andre to win this title now so that he can go to Houston.
