Queens Final WWW: David Nalbandian vs Marin Cilic

Great final between two great players.

H2H is in favor of David, but Marin won their last match in Davis Cup in Argentina in 5 sets.

Both guys have been playing great this week so far, can't really say who will take this one.

A win would take Cilic to #18 in the world, well on his way back to the top 10 at least. Nalbandian would rise to #29, maybe hinting at a late career surge.

Either way, tennis wins.

I'd be surprised if Nalby got less than 99% of the votes here

They have faced twice this year, one on hardcourt and one on clay, and now grass.

At Indian Wells, Nalbandian won 7-6 and 7-6.

At DC in Argentina (clay), Cilic won 5-7, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3

Both very tight matches, as tomorrow's will probably be as well.

Tough to see how this one is going to pan out. Marin is really back playing some great stuff again....and his game suits grass well. Dave says he feels fine, but looks a bit tired. Think I will go Cilic in 3...but won't be surprised by any outcome.

What kind of grass final is this? Too bad the two finalists from last year lost early this year :o

That said, the other possible finalists were Querrey and Dimitrov so I can't really complain :tape: The two lessers of 4 evils got through, I guess.

What are you on about? Nalbandian has reached a final at Wimbledon, albeit a decade ago, and Cilic plays good tennis and moves well on grass.

True, on paper it's not as good a final as Murray vs Tsonga last year, but it's hardly a bad one either.

I have to wonder how much gas Nalby has left in the tank after the last two days' exertions. He looked rather whacked after today's match. Hope he recovers enough to make the final competitive.

Over 10 years ago, nice one. Totally relevant to how good he is nowadays, right? How many semi-finals in a row has he had recently? How many grass titles has he won recently, or ever?

your really starting to sound like topspindoctor. If certain players you like dont make the final then the tournament must there for be crap

cilic and nalbandian can both play well on grass and with the way the tournament went and all the possible players that could have made the final that were left after the second round this is the best one the tournament could have hoped for

would you rather it was lu v.s dimitrov or something like that?

I reckon longer the match, Marin's chances will rise. David played many long matches and he isn't exactly known for his stamina, specially nowadays.

So i'll say (and hope) Marin in 3. Bamos!

Probably simila scoreline for David

I like both players, so any result will satisfy me really.

Will be rooting for Marin though. He needs wins more urgently than David since he is young and has his entire career ahead of him. This could be the beginning of his return to the world's top 10.

I have to disagree. He does have some holes in his game, especially his serve and net game, but has time to improve. What has always impressed me most is that he moves remarkably well for a guy his size, far better than Del Potro imo (although JMDP's strokes are more powerful and consistent). He also has an excellent return.

I could definitely see Marin being a mainstay in the top 10 at the very least.

Yeah, he will for sure. He's just 23 and has too much game to stay out of the top 10 for much longer.

Look for him to crush Murray in the US Open later this year as if it was 2009 all over again.

Nalby in two tight sets to get his first ATP on grass, and 12th in his career. Perhaps Marin plays great and surprises us, but he doesn't plays very well on finals ( this year in Munich for example).

I like Marin more than David, and I want him to win. But in terms of "deserving", for all the suffering he had, Nalbandian deserves it much more than Cilic.
