Halle R2: Rafa Nadal beats Lacko 7-5 6-1

Rafa is the GOAT

Great match to start on grass
Specially the 2nd set
That shot at 5-0 15-30 was magic
Average first serve speed of 123 mph and served a 136 mph serve
Looking good with all shots and movements and specially the serve and powe and movement

Wasn't that impressed. Lacko completly felt apart after the first set loss, so it was an easy match for Rafa.

Decent performance considering he just won RG three days ago and hasn't played on grass in near a year.

disgusting effort from lacko

he never thought he could win the match in the first place. getting to 5-5 in the first was the highlight of the match in his opinion

Disgusting result for tennis. Someone should ban Nadal for sucking.

Poor Lukas :awww: Still more entertaining than Nadull, and lost.

Lacko lost to Lacko´s head in that 5-6 game. Nadal is losing to Berdych in semis.

Would be fun reading Fedtard reactions if Nadal won Halle. Hamburg 2008 all over again.

But markets have Federer as the favourite and they've been exceptionally accurate this year.

At least Lacko avoided the bagel. He is still 1-0 vs Nadal in bagel sets. :p

served a 136 mph serve

Wouldn't that be a record for him?
I remember the fastest serve he ever hit was 135 mph but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm very happy to hear Clay Warrior's serve is clocking in the 120's. And a 136 to boot? Very nice. He needs to keep that going. He'll need it at Wimbledon.

He usually plays very different in these events, hitting more freely because he's got no pressure. That's why he doesn't waste time between points and hits flatter forehands.
I've always liked to watch his matches at Queens because of this reason.

Rafa backhand needed some adaptation at the begining, but then he just was grassGOATing. Indeed, he was in a hurry today. Barely asspicking or bounce the ball when serving. I guess Xisca was awaitig for him in the hotel.

He clearly sees this event as nothing but a warm-up. Slams are all that matter at this stage in his career.

If this is "grassGOATing" (what a funny word), you obviously haven´t seen playing Federer, Sampras, McEnroe or Borg.

Honestly, on grass I enjoyed more Edberg. Respect for Pete, but he was boring to tears.

Nadal on grass right after 3 months on clay is the biggest metamorphosis in tennis EVER. He stands closer, plays inside, forehand flatter, backhand more power, serve stronger, slicing dicing, coming to the net - its really unbelievable. (specially queens/halle on quicker fresh grass). Obviously he is not playing a game he is comfortable with so always on upset alert. Doesn't mean he looks totally confident doing it but he makes a conscious attempt to adapt which is very enjoyable for me to watch.

Now the question is will he lose to Kohli or will he get another match in?

Great serve, easy point on the net, every once a good volley or some good rest. End of story.

He never tanks :) closest to tank for Rafa here in halle would mean keep playing aggressive irrespective of the score. Stay closer to the lines, control the rallies, hit backhand hard, serve hard, frequent visits to the net etc - in short keep playing the game which is not natural to him even if it is not working.

In Wimbledon when his aggressive game is making errors he tries to reign in and plays defensively "not to lose" and many times gets away with it. Here in halle or queens he goes flat out - working or not and doesn't matter what the score is and if he is winning or losing - which is fun to watch. SO yes he could lose to kohli :) But I will be hoping he comes through so i could see atleast one more match of his. He doesn't play with this reckless abundance anywhere else :)

This is a man who has seen play Rafa in Queens all that years. I remenber when Rafa play first time in Halle. He was defeated clearly by some mug I don't remember his name. However he has played every year a little better and a more natural game on grass. Some years before he even didn't know how slicing his backhand. Now he uses it a lot for example.

Nadal has always moved really well on grass. And he has adapted his game over the years to conditions on this surface. At Queens, I feel he was forced to play more aggressively because it is a faster surface than Wimbledon/Halle. We'll see how he does in his next match.

I agree with previous posters that he tends to play more freely at these warm-up events because the outcome is less important to him. He sees it as a way to prepare for the real tournament - Wimbledon.

Doubt fedal happens in Halle. Rafa will be safely tucked in his bed in Majorca long before the final :) He will have played 4 matches by tomorrow (2 singles and 2 doubles). Should be plenty practice to win Wimbledon no? :)

Part of it was the lighter balls. The other part was just Nadal having the season of his career.

He tends to do really well in even numbered years. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Didn't Nadal develop a sore shoulder after the USO that year? He just doesn't have the proper technique, can probably go for it for some periods of time but then it starts wearing his joints and muscles down.

Give Rafa a break. He's got to be tired from RG. Plus, this is just a warm up for the real event. Rafa doesn't care about Halle. This is where he gets some court time on the surface and makes adjustments.

LOL. Come on CD! He came back and won RG in relentless style!

He clocked a 136 MPH serve today (his fastest ever) and averaged in the 120's for the match. That's borderline 2010 US Open. Clay Warrior hasn't looked this sharp since 2010. I've got a good feeling about Wimbledon, I really do.

And again, Rafa does not give a damn about Halle. Whether he wins or loses in the next round - irrelevant. He's here to meet his obligation and get some court time. Nothing more.

you know i cant cut him no slack. he should have been sitting on 15 slams already.

he fucked up his knees in 2009 and that cost him 2 slams at the very least.

he got a little complacent after 2010 and that cost him 3 slams.

Clay Warrior has exceeded my expectations. Maybe I don't expect enough from him. I don't know. But to think he has won 11 slams, a career grand slam, a gold medal, the most RG titles in history... it's incredible really. And I don't focus on what could have been.

There's been ups and downs - 2009 with the knees (an injury he probably could have avoided with more care with his scheduling) - 2011 and his confidence low (though you have to credit Djokovic there - it was an incredible season).

But somehow these lows have made the highs more special for me. It sounds crazy, but I think I'm happy with Nadal at 11 slams and having fought back from injury in 2009 with his amazing 2010 season and having found a way (so far anyway) to solve the Novak puzzle in 2012.

How much more satisfying was his RG victory this year with him having beaten a guy that was owning him in slams? It's his best victory at RG ever. There's nothing special about him beating on Federer or whipping Soderling who never had a chance. What about his 2010 Wimbledon? NID against Tomas who couldn't beat Nadal on grass if his life depended on it - it meant very little other than upping his slam count. But his 2008 victory against Federer who hadn't lost there in 5 years? That's what I watch this sport for. Those moments.

And think about how amazing it will be if we get Nole/Nadal in the final of this year's Wimbledon. And what if Nadal wins that? How much better is that going to be BECAUSE Nadal had to struggle to find a way to defeat Novak? This isn't some guy whose going to roll over for Nadal. Novak represents a player who believes he can beat Nadal because he has - numerous times. But this situation only exists because of how 2010 went down.

So I think these lows and how Nadal has responded to them enhance his legacy - they are worth more to me than 4 more slams as crazy as that sounds. I'd rather him win 1 slam under these circumstances than win 4 NID slams.

Greatness is not defined simply by winning when you are the best - any fool can do that. It is defined by how you handle adversity - how do you respond when you aren't on top anymore? When there's someone can beat you? Do you run away like Borg did? Or do you dig deep and find a way to rise above it like Nadal has done on more than one occasion? If you can do that. You become a legend.

My 2 cents. Cheers.
