Nice third set domination, getting the bagel. Couldn't happen to a better person than Bogomolov. Saved 4/4 BPs in the final set. Was up 3-1 in the second set and should have probably won the match from there but failed to get it done, had chances to get it back on serve and didn't take them. I'm guessing he had several concentration dips as usual but his class is simply too much for Bogo to handle.

6 breaks in 13 service games on grass is very impressive.

Ridiculous topsy-turvy match. Malisse lead 3-1 in the second and should have won it there.

Still, glad to see him win.

The thread title should be changed to something like 'Mohamed Lahyani survives Malisse def. Bogomolov, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0'

I thought the Malisse-Ungur match was quality, but all three guys turned in a 5-star performance for this one, reaching levels of ridiculousness rarely seen. Things got off to a portentious start with Bogo having to wait on court for ages until Malisse finally saunters on, Lahyani glancing meaningfully at his watch when he passes him to his chair. Match starts as expected with Bogo double faulting to give Malisse BP in the very first game. Malisse takes it with a clean inside out fh winner and then holds to love, 2-0, hitting really sweetly from the off. Then Bogo finally holds for 1-2, and Malisse inevitably begins engaging Lahyani with some complaint during the changeover. Probably disturbed by the collective gasp of shock emanating from adjacent centre court as Murray loses the first set in the middle of Bogo's game point (as was evident during Ungur match, Malisse seems to take inordinate interest in all matches other than the one he is playing).

Bogo doesn't take advantage of distracted Malisse and only offers poor second serve returns dismissively flicked away by Malisse who holds to 3-1. Malisse starts mental lapsing while considering centre court scoreboard, lets Bogo get to 30-0 on his serve. Bogo hits a routine bh long with Malisse finger going up as linesman shouts out, and then a chilling 'correction!' which makes Malisse stop in his tracks, then another poor call on the next point just to make sure Malisse's monologue starts.

Malisse up 4-2, starts complaining about the slippery court and inability to 'push off', mutters 'it's funny when we break something, only when we break something you do something about it', wipes feet on court exaggeratedly and feels it with his hands, imploring Lahyani to come feel it himself, so ironically smiling Lahyani bounds down from the chair at changeover and feels the court to shut him up, and then Bogo himself starts sliding for shots as if on clay.

At 5-3 Malisse halfway stops returning a serve he assumed would be called out, but it wasn't, so he somehow improvises it into play at the last second and still wins the point, Bogo hopeless. Malisse shrugging and eyeing sleeping linesperson, breaks one point later to take set 6-3. Makes a point to get out of chair early at changeover in order to slide around and stamp on the grass some more. Holds and then has BPs against Bogo at 1-0, not bothered enough to convert, meanwhile Bogo starts yelling 'come on' when winning routine service points.

2-1 on serve Malisse breaks string and of course still wins the point after Bogo nets Malisse's weak broken string slice backhand and goes down 0-30. Bogo slams a ball over into the Murray court and gets abuse of ball warning. Malisse breaks 3-1. Then starts tapping mistrustfully at the new racquet whenever he misses a shot, which he suddenly starts doing. While animated Malisse monologues about string tension, Bogo breaks back and Malisse pitches badly strung racquet into grass multiple times making sure Lahyani can see, kicks over chairs, goes ballistic, muttering something like 'you guys don't care about us!', Lahyani gives him point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct when doesn't shut up, Malisse tells him that's 'like telling mom I wet my diapers'. Finally Lahyani booms "let's play!' and his voice gets louder and authoritarian, calling scores sternly, tells Malisse to cut it out and also to stop spitting on court. 'I can spit wherever I want! Tell me where to breathe!' Bogo holds and Malisse gifts him another break for 3-4.

Lahyani tells Malisse to stop muttering constantly, Malisse insisting he can talk whenever he wants. Layhani says it's disturbing to his opponent, while Bogo sits there looking undisturbed. Malisse keeps ranting and Lahyani cuts him off yelling "Time!" into the mic right in his face, and gives game penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Malisse demands he call the supervisor to the court. Man in panama hat who is apparently supervisor comes out, leaves, Malisse goes over to serve at 3-5 telling departing supervisor 'that helped a lot, thank you for coming'. Then he can't find any balls to serve with because they are still on the other side of the court after the game penalty. 'What, the balls are taken away from us now? Watch out, five more seconds and you get a warning!" he advises the ballgirls.

After this lengthy break, Malisse ballbashes the game to love (never in doubt), but Bogo then serves it out for 6-4 second set. Dick Norman sitting in audience realizing he actually has to come out and play doubles with this guy two matches later.

Malisse starts the third in full ballbashing mode, holding easily to love, breaking Bogo to 15. Then Bogo has 0-40 on Malisse serve, can't deal with Malisse ballbashing break point saving to go up 3-0, Bogo throws racquet. Breaks Bogo again to 15 in next game, Bogo slams another ball out of court and Lahyani penalises him another point for ball abuse, at which Malisse rolls his eyes and waves his arms even though it's HIS point. Holds serve to love, 5-0. Bogo spends changeover arguing with Lahyani while Malisse patiently waits to return. Breaks to win 6-0. Both shake Layhani's hand, the good sports. Lahyani receives most enthusiastic cheers from crowd as he leaves court grinning.

Loving it. So often they get point penalty and just ignore it, assuming the ump won't go further - normally they'd have to punch a spectator to get a game penalty.

I know! Lahyani is pure class and you could tell he was inwardly rolling his eyes and knew Malisse was just being...Malisse, and it was funny as hell, but things really did get ridiculous and he was right to intervene. In a way, dishing out that penalty and getting Xman even madder actually seemed to work in his favour, as he was so pissed off that he only lost one game and like 10 points total after that.
Anyway it would have been a shame if he went out to Bogo due to mental illness when the draw has gotten so wide open, and tomorrow he'll play winner of tired Nalby/Roger-Vasselin, who themselves fight it out earlier in the day. Great chance to make it to SF or more here. :yeah:
