Has it ever happened before? Li Ching Yuen 06-09-2012, 04:09 PM It surely must've happened before in an era where you had to adapt from a hard court surface to another, slide to play well on clay or bend your knees to have success on grass, with the latter not being a shootout tournament but instead actually giving the players the opportunity to accommodate to the surface and actually develop a game for it with the volume of tune-up tournaments available. I feel like I'm getting something wrong with this post. I'm sorry. Wing Man Frank 06-09-2012, 04:09 PM Given how few have achieved it, without bothering to do the research I think the answer is extremely well weighted towards a no, don't you? Pretty sure if it had, someone would have mentioned it. TigerTim 06-09-2012, 04:10 PM Well Williams in 2002/3 no, Graff in 1988 no, Budge in 1938 no, Perry in 1935 no, Agassi in 1999 was the same year Graff won? Nadal and Rodger no. Emerson at the US in early 60s? Answer is no. Emerson won the CGS in 1964, Court a year before at Wimbledon also, thats the closest. LeChuck 06-09-2012, 04:46 PM It very nearly happened at RG in 1999. Hingis had already won the 3 other slams and was going for the career grand slam. In the final against Graf she served for the match in the 2nd set, but of course couldn't close it out and her temper get the better of her. The next day Agassi came from 2 sets to love down to beat Medvedev and complete his career grand slam. LinkMage 06-09-2012, 04:55 PM Sharapova won RG? :spit: She moves like a cow on ice on clay. Shows the pathetic state of WTA. sweetkit 06-09-2012, 05:00 PM Sharapova won RG? :spit: She moves like a cow on ice on clay. Sharapova barely moves at all. misty1 06-09-2012, 06:01 PM Sharapova won RG? :spit: She moves like a cow on ice on clay. Shows the pathetic state of WTA. Movement is still an issue but she is much better than she was years ago. She's never really been that terrible on clay, remember that her break through at a slam was the french open UsD.AnDreS 06-09-2012, 08:44 PM I have a nice question as well - has there ever been a person taking a career slam after winning exactly 4 slams?(besides Sharapova) BauerAlmeida 06-09-2012, 09:00 PM I have a nice question as well - has there ever been a person taking a career slam after winning exactly 4 slams?(besides Sharapova) Agassi. UsD.AnDreS 06-09-2012, 09:11 PM Agassi. My bad... couldn't believe that prior to his RG win he hadn't got at least 4 slams.. | |
