Rogie (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008, he's due); Berdych (2007, trying for a second title); Rafa (Halle debut, only 3 career grass court titles).

Rogie is 36-4 lifetime at Halle; his losses (2000 QF loss to Chang, 2001 QF loss to Rafter, 2002 SF loss to Kiefer, and 2010 F to Hewitt); his wins (2003 over Kiefer, 2004 over Fish, 2005 over Safin, 2006 over Berdych, and 2008 over Kohlschreiber).

The question will be, and we'll know soon enough when the draw comes out, is Berdych going to be in the same half as Rogie or Rafa? These are the only three I can imagine winning it. I think the final will be Rogie vs. Rafa or Berdych!

theseth1119
06-09-2012, 02:34 AM
No, Isner's not playing the Gerry Weber Open, nor is he playing in Queen's Club.

Top seeds here: Rafa, Rogie, Berdych, Dolgopolov is 4th (basically the top 3 are the ones with a real chance to win it all).
Queen's Club top seeds: Mugray, Tsonga, Tipsarevic, Simon, Del Potro, and the rest of the field (Mugray or Tsonga to win).

Kohli in Nadal's quarter. Berdych in Nadal's half.

I for one agree, I love grass court tennis, the way it was meant to be played, it all started as a lawn sport, there needs to be more grass court tennis! It's amazing that Rogie has already won 11 grass court titles, the most for a male tennis player (6 Wimbledons and 5 Halle titles), considering just how short the grass court season is. I wouldn't be shocked if Rogie wins 1, 2, or 3 tiles on grass this year among Halle, Wimbledon, and the 2012 London Olympics (singles, forget doubles, he already won that in Beijing in 2008).

U can`t compare grass to clay.He struggled playing in the longer rallies on clay, but on grass the tennis will be different. There will be less rallies and he will get a lot more free points of his serve.

Berdych has to reach the SF first ;) Last year he was down 3 MPs to Bemelmans in the first round.

The German players are always dangerous in Halle and Kohli has shown in previous matches against Rafa - even though the H2H is 8:0 for Rafa - that he actually has the game to make the match close against Rafa.

They haven't played on grass though yet.

Just check the draws of the Top 4 players at the slams this year. Their toughest opponents at AO before the semis were Berdych and Ferrer, who were part of the Federer era, and Del Potro, who showed no resistance against Federer. Otherwise they beat challenger level players, youngsters, and over the hill players like Hewitt, Haas, and Karlovic.

And Roger was so weak during his prime that he had to rely on so-called cakewalk draws to win Grand Slam tournaments?

Since when are the top players given a bye in the first round in Halle?

It's the first time this year. I don't know if they only made it for this specific tournament - as it will be the 20th anniversairy - or if it has to do with the fact that during the last years the topplayers cancelled the tournament when they went deep in Roland Garros?

Hm, I forgot Nadal is playing there for the first time and as usual he geht's an easy draw, whereas Roger has to play Flo Meyer and Raonic, who will be very dangerous on the surface in a best of three match.

Don't underestimate Kohlschreiber. He won Halle last year and has been in the final before. Even though he is 0:8 in the H2H against Rafa many of their matches have been close.

It has to be seen how much Flo has left in the tank after playing a tournament in Czech Republic this week and having to adjust to a new surface within a few days.

Mayer is a tricky player indeed and the German players have the advantage to play at home but he still has to win his 1st round match in Halle against a qualifier.

We're not living in 2005 or 2006 anymore when Fed got one cakewalk drw after another to collect his "Slam" titles :spit:

If you consider Roger's draws from back then as cakewalk it either seems that you didn't followed tennis then or that you just wanted to find something to discredit Roger's achievements or the ones of the other topplayers from that time.

It's difficult these days for Murray for example to win a GS but the same can be said about Roddick, Hewitt or Gonzalez who could have achieved more when Roger wouldn't have been around.
