Veic led 5-*2 30-15 in the third set, had MPs at *5-3, a MP at 5-*4 after a DF from Meffert, and 0-30 and BP in the final game.

Meffert is pretty terrible, Veic not taking his chances here...

Meffert isn't terrible. He's a journeyman who has been rather consistently mediocre for years. Good fight today and I'm glad he won, but the Croat should be banging his head in shame.

Can't say I've watched an abundance of his matches, but of the few I've witnessed, including this years AO qualies, he was deadset average and that's an understatement.

I've seen Meffert put in one good performance he was serving huge that day. The others have been poor or average, but good enough today.

But average isn't terrible ;)

Veic is a lot more up and down than Meffert, so the German logically has a shot during the downs.

Meffert retired from the doubles match because of "muscle fatigue" ... :wavey:
