Who are your top 8 players on clay?

Let's say you were hosting a special invitation-only event on outdoor red clay and you had to invite the world's best 8 players on the surface to play. Something like the "clay masters cup". Who would you invite and how would you seed them?

For me:

1. Nadal
2. Djokovic
3. Federer
4. Ferrer
5. Soderling
6. Del Potro
7. Berdych
8. Murray

Reserves: (9) Almagro and (10) Monfils.

This of course assumes everyone is fully fit. There are doubts if Soda will ever return, but I'm basing it on his form over the past few years.

What about Blake?

Blake may be poor on clay nowadays, but career wise he's not too bad. He's beaten the likes of Almagro, Moya (when top 10), Davydenko (ranked 11), Verdasco, Monfils, Monaco, Safin, Gonzalez, Murray and even Berlocq.

Though now Djoker is a strong clay courter, don't see why he's above Fed on those serious lists. Fed is by far the second most successful clay couter of the past ten years.

Almagro is so much better than del Potro, probably Berdych too. How else is he anywhere near top 8 when he´s a bit of a HC mug? He gets as many points in CC season as Murray with much harder draws
I´m not gonna include soderling

2 Djokovic

If Soderling were actually around, I'd put him 4th, ahead of Ferrer, given their H2H, and Robin is more of a threat to the big three.

Murray that high really?

I know Fumus will come in and say MM/250/500 clay court titles mean sweet FA, but they're on the CV if you win them. He's not got a title.

At their best, in no particular order:

Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Berdych, Ferrer, Del Potro, Almagro.

I didn't include Soderling because he's not around atm but if he was then you can either replace Murray or Almagro with him.

Why is Puerta even on that list? Which of his 3 titles put him ahead of Costa/Ferrer/Corretja, was it Casablanca, Bogota or Palermo?

Warinka is at least as good as Almagro on every surface clay included. Berdych has had a good clay season this year but he hasn't alwways been that good.

I won´t include Soderling who is almost year out

1.Nadal
2.Nole
3.Roger
4-5Ferrer, Delpo
6.Almagro
7.Berdych
8-9Monfils-Murray

I don´t know if Murray is top 8 on clay, but he can beat many lower ranked guys on clay, he is way to good not to be in top 8, but specialist like Almagro must be rated higher than Andy for sure.

Monfils had great results at RG and his game seems to be great for clay.

JCF is 3rd if we're talking about active CV's on clay. But yeah the top 4 includes Ferrer and Berdych would be 5th. Del Pony probably 6th and Almagro 7th. Then the rest maybe.

500 tournament wins add to your CV. That's why Murray is worse off than those guys because they've won things on clay. They might not be the big trophies but they're still titles.

Don't you think Federer gets No. 2 over Djokovic if you look at both of them career wise?

How good will Novak's clay skills be at age 31?

He means current or else he's easily 2nd and JCF is third by a mile.

Actually on CVs you're probably right, 4-2 in titles, one Masters semi each (if we're only counting the red clay) and one RG semi each so yeah.

I would NOT invite Nadal, unless he agrees to play with older racquets or some shit like that. He'll just ruin the competition.

Spaniards traditionally excel on clay courts, although Juan Carlos Ferrero was a hard court specialist who transitioned to clay and excelled on both surfaces.

Puerta was just a joke man, i put a smiley there for a purpose

Gaudio owned Coria and Nadal on clay

if i remember correctly he had winning h2h against Nadal on clay 3-0 (only player to do so)

People putting Murray in top 8 is just

seriously ppl are just solidifying the mug clay era claim by listing a player who has not even reached a Single Clay Final in his entire Career

no offense meant but seriously jeez!
