The weird thing is that Nadal wasn't RG-2008-2010-PERFECT-MODE.

He was very solid and played a geat match, but not THAT good.
Well... At least we saw great shots by Rafa.

Monaco played a really bad match, IDK... Maybe he was tired.

I still can't see any other player than Rafa winning this whole thing.

It's not about Mugnaco's pathetic performance but state of tennis seen from a wider context- Top players lack any kind of competition in slams and actually majors could be confined to 4 players in draw and start off from semifinals because nothing is going to happen before that stage.

Nadal came out on Nole's turf and took it to him, but it wasn't enough. Now we're in Rafa's house, Djoker has to elevate to 4.0 if he wants to take it to 5, and he's not even close.

Nole took a whole lot of Nadal's houses lately. Maybe you need to rewatch the last
3 slam finals. Nole beat him on clay under fair conditions last year. Rafa beat him
2 times this year but it wasn't fair to Nole. First in MC , with his grandfather passing Nole
wasn't into it and I don't blame him at all. In Rome, Nole got screwed badly by a call
and lost 5 games because of it which was enough to lose that match. It was also cold and
windy. Still if you look at the game if they meet in final, Rafa has much more pressure
to win than usual. I just hope for a decent weather and schedule and a good match.

also those legless ejacuzee french organizers keep pissing him off. they put him 4th on a side court.

it is a job general commander data.

did you expect him to slack on the job? that is not who he is.

also those legless ejacuzee french organizers keep pissing him off. they put him 4th on a side court.

so he had to eliminate any possibility of having that match extended to tomorrow. there was some rain on the schedule.

start expecting this now. he is really going to destroy somebody in the final. they will be lucky to get 4-5 games total.

Hope he meets Djoker in the final. Nole won't win it, but it would at least be interesting to have that pairing at least once in the RG-final when both play well.
Nadal won't lose a set I think.

Truth is Monaco could play out of his mind and would still do shit.
It's not about Mugnaco's pathetic performance but state of tennis seen from a wider context- Top players lack any kind of competition in slams and actually majors could be confined to 4 players in draw and start off from semifinals because nothing is going to happen before that stage.

yeah, that's why Seppi almost eliminated Novak
The problem is they just don't try against Nadal. They play their hearts out against Federer (and sometimes Djokovic), but they just roll over for Nadal. Everyone wants to tell their future grandkids that they once beat Federer (even though it's not even that uncommon ) Why no one wants to tell that they were only one of 2 people EVER to beat Nadal at RG??? Seems like it would be a great feather in one's cap.

Are you really that dumb (sorry to call you that, it just felt like the right place and time)? Of course they try, of course they play their hearts out just as much as against Federer or Djokovic. But when Nadal on clay is on, there is no answer. Yes they get beat down, yes they probably won't win 6 games, but of course they try.

When do you really get it going? When you smell blood, when you rally with these top guys, and feel you can take em. Nadal doesn't give you that, he just slowly wears you down and takes away all hope. The reason they give Federer and Djokovic a real match is because they allow them to, Nadal doesn't give them that luxury.

:)

Hmmm sorry Kat, but I'm not buying this "they just don't try against Nadal"-reasoning. You do realize that that is the exact same thing people said back in 2004-2007 about Federer? ;) (and some even still do :o)

Fact is that Rafa is just unbelievable on clay when he's on. Perhaps the best ever on the surface? I surely think so.
And right now, he obviously is ON. Yes, Monaco was *bad* - but I well remember the exact same comments coming from Fed-haters when he trashed Roddick (just to name someone) in a GS in straights for the upteenth time. ;)

Well at least Söderling can still tell his upcoming kid that he's been able to Perform The Unthinkable, as so far the only one to do so. :D

Agreed he seems a bit off track lately but as a Nole fan I would absolutly believe there is the possibility he finds his form for the final and wins.

I hope so, Tom, i hope so. :)

Oh come on, give us something new. What else do you want from him? He could win 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 and you would still say "I am not happy with the clay warrior".

don't worry. This is CD's way of keeping the clay warrior on track. The more she says she is unhappy the harder he'll work and the better he'll become.
It's called negative reinforcement; Uncle Toni's tried and true method.

Rafa better be cooking Pico whatever he wants in the kitchen and doing whatever Pico wants in the bedroom after that - he has some serious bitch karma to work off now.

That was BRUTAL.

You are very scary when you get angry so I will definitely remember to be on your good side. :)

Great win for Nadal. It was really impressive to see him play. He looks even better than last years.
I don't see Nadal lose this years Roland Garros. Only if Djokovic somehow manages to reach within a couple of days the Wimbledon final 2011 form. Than we might see a cracker in the final. Otherwise Nadal will easily win his 7th title if he won't get injured.

Hilarious from Monaco.

And Fed is the one with the cakewalk draw?

Yes. Rafa beat a very good claycourt player seeded 13.

Federer has yet to face a seeded player. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/all_my_senses/smilies/_dancingcupcakes.gif

Come on Tom. You think Nole is playing at his peak?
I didn't want to accept that he wasn't the same player than last year, after all I think he gave a strong performance at AO. But his clay season has been disappointing. After the Seppi match I don't know what to think anymore. Meanwhile Nadal is in his absolute clay peak, i don't see anyone stopping him here. :o

I think Nole can still step it up when he meets a top player.

Haha ok, I'll give you that one, my post was a bit of a fail. :) I just assumed from the scoreline that it was vs a Spaniard.

Sí. Mira récord de Nadal en Roland Garros. Rafa venció Djokovic ya dos veces en tierra batida. Él no va a ganar. Cinco juegos? De ninguna manera. Djokovic se cansará.

It's really difficult to repeat what Novak did last season. You can't expect a player to win every tournament. Beside this he won the tournament which count the most until the current one and he is still in it.

His performance against Seppi won't tell anything about his level in his next match(es). It's natural for topplayers to go through close matches in a tournament.

Let's not forget that this clay season isn't easy for Novak due to the personal situation which happened during Monte Carlo.

Meanwhile Nadal is in his absolute clay peak, i don't see anyone stopping him here. :o

He's at peak form on clay for many years ;)

It's surely the most difficult task in tennis to beat Rafa on clay in a best of 5 match.

I guess Rafa wouldn't have liked to play against Novak in a possible final in Paris last year when Novak was clearly under his skin after having won against him a few times in a row but Rafa now has the mental advantage back which is a "deadly" combination combined with his ability to play.

Matches from now on will surely get a bit more difficult for Rafa in the tournament but I think it's highly unlikely that he won't win it in the end. It would already be a success if a player will be able to get a set of him but the remaining players in his draw all have the potential to do it.

Nadal said that Monaco was unlucky to lose the first set.

He said he was unlucky to lose it 6-2.

I don't think Rafa is playing as well as he did in 2008. Therefore, not peak because I have seen him play better. Perhaps he will improve.

Q. When you’re up 6‑Love, 5‑Love, what are your serves? Do you think about the score? Did you look at? Do you care about what Juan Monaco is thinking? Or are you just into your match and nothing else matters?

RAFAEL NADAL: You know, that the feelings are a little bit difficult to analyze, because for a part, for a way, you feel a little bit sad for the opponent, because I know he start to accept that you are losing 6‑Love, 5‑Love.

But, at the same time, the tennis isn’t a sport that you cannot relax not one moment, no? Because that’s the sport. I lost a match this year in Madrid against Verdasco with 5‑2 in the third, two breaks.

I tried to be focused and tried to finish the match as quick as possible.

And that’s the best way to do it: To respect the opponent, to respect everybody, my opinion. Try my best in every moment. :inlove: :worship:

What a sweetheart.

in retrospect, federer probly took djokovic's one and only chance to win RG. i sincerely think that if djokovic had beaten federer in RG 2011, he'd have beaten nadal in tne Final. After all, he had owned him with relative ease in rome, a tournament that plays quite similar to RG.

This year is a different story. Djokovic has slightly decreased his level while nadal seems to be at or near his peak. In these conditions, I think djokovic will lose to nadal in 3 sets in an eventual final, if he even makes it that far.

Agree with this statement, Djokovic had his chances last year, the same to Federer who choked to close that 1set against Nadal. Ferrer is reading Nadal's game pretty well but he is inconsistent and vulnerable in big stages. Mugro should be happy if he manages to take 9 games against Nadal.

Verdict: Give RG title to Nadal already

Throw in the WTF and I'll take this with fries. :D

Give Monaco some credit people. He was playing well out there. He tried his best but Nadal was just on another tennis planet. Scary stuff

That's the issue, he wasn't playing his best, even when Nadal hits the ball on the service line Monaco cannot hit a decent shot off it, and since that happened and started missing, and railroad started and he stopped trying. I think the main issue was that the way he played was embarrassing, Against Novak he was keeping the ball in play more solidly than against Nadal.
