4th most likely to win RG?

I know itŽs an odd question but I wonder, after the big 3

My top 5 are
1 Almagro (He could well lose to Tipsy, but heŽs the one I can truly see catching fire and winning)
2 Ferrer (Needs things to fall into place, but has decent shot at final if Almagro beats Nadal, which is not unthinkable)
3 Berdych (Can beat anyone on his day, just a bit difficult to see him stringing it together)
TIE 4 Murray (Unlikely on clay, but hey, the guy can play and Nadal struggles with him at times)
TIE 4 Gasquet (Really really impressive today, but how does he beat Ferrer?)

Hard to see injured del Potro doing it. WouldnŽt absolutely rule out Tipsy, but not his srurface. Raonic is not beating Ferrer, Federer, or Djokovic, and heŽd likely need to do at least one. Monaco seems about to lose, but everyone else would have to play really bad

Who do you think?

Nadal. He's also the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most likely to win.

Almugro is 0-7 versus Nadal, 0-5 versus Federer, and 0-3 versus Nole and you think he's the 4th likeliest to win RG? :stupid:

Nadal. He's also the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most likely to win.

He's 1.5th to win the thing. All depends on Serbian Slayer and whether Rogie allows him to do Rafigoato once again.

HeŽa choked to Nadal plenty, though I am actually regretting not putting Ferrer at 1 a bit. IMO, my top 3 are all really close. He still would need a fair bit of luck of course, probably not running into Ferrer, but I think he can beat Federer and Djokovic on clay

2.Nothing
3.Nothing
4.Injured Delpo
5.Nothing
6.Ferrer/Almagro (tie, probably need Nadal to DF all BPs and injure himself)
7.Murray ("hai can i reach a clay final pls?")
8.Gasquet (how far is it possible to play behind the baseline and win vs top players, let's test)

And 0-10 vs Ferrer :smash:

Those h2h match-ups are pretty heavily skewed by Almagro being a one-surface player, unlike the 4 best clay players. He has played Ferrer and Nadal close many times on clay. I would have put Ferrer at no. 1 if not for his RG record, and Berdych if he hadnŽt somehow been taken to 5 by Anderson on clay.

PHM. Failing that, Berdych.

Almagro is the most mentally weak player on the ATP tour. He has 0 belief in himself when he faces higher ranked players, it's like he is content of being a second tier player and has no ambition of being anything more than that.

If he faces Nadal again, expect a repeat of their 2010 match. Almagro will make each set tight, will get into winning positions in every set but will lose in straights. He does have great strokes/game, but he's mentally incapable of beating any top player. He just doesn't believe he can beat them and when that happens you've already lost.

I voted for Berdych and I still think it's Berdych.
But Ferrer is playing great tennis from what I saw... I really think Nadal will crush him in semis, in 2 easy sets and a tiebreak, but who the hell knows.

Honestly the only way anyone other than Nadal wins is through some kind of freak injury, or someone like Berdych/Federer playing the perfect match.

We don't have 4th player, that's the problem.. here or anywhere else

Federer in 2
06-02-2012, 06:46 PM
Ferrer and Berdych, but I would pick Ferrer just because he only has 2 of the big 3 on his theoretical way to the title (Nadal >> Djoko\Fed) . Tomas has all 3 (Fed >> Djoko >> Nadal).

Pointless thread though.

What? Murray is certaintly just as much of a contender as Federer these days, maybe not at RG but everywhere else.

What i'm saying is if you don't consider Murray to be contending for slams, I don't see how you can say Federer is. Their results in slams have been very similair over the last 2 years.

Watching Djokovic play right now, IŽm starting to come around to the Berdych view just because the other guys on his side are playin g so bad

Negative.

Ferrer can only beat Murray of the top 4 on clay.

On clay these days(not 2010) against the other 3 he loses.

Ferrer chokes against the top 3 these days, even on clay.

Ferrer would murder the Djokovic that played today. And he'd probably beat Fed the way he's playing today too. It's true, though, he has choked badly against them in the past.

Ferrer is quite obviously the 4th best player on clay.

but none of the above can beat Nadal over 5 sets on red clay. Novak djokovic is the only man in the world capable of doing that

Yes, because comparing Rafa's results on hardcourts and grass are a good indication of what will happen on clay. Looks like Roger is in with a good shot after the thrashing at Indian Wells.

Rafa on clay = something else
