One and a half decent sets from Haas. Not bad. Enough to soil my panties - that is if I was wearing panties.

LOL
aside they both hit the backhand with one hand, their game aren't similar at ALL. They are quite opposite in fact.

Haas probably tired after his run in qualy but Gasquet was outstanding also, the kind of performance he produces once in the year. I fear he did it too early, because he'll need this level to beat Murray in the next round.

Haas running out of gas a bit here after coming through qualies and winning 2 matches. Good to see the old boy still playing well, should pull off an upset or two during the grass season.

As for Richie, well he was just too good. Finally fulfilling his potential? Definitely a shot vs. Murray in the next round.

They aren't similar because Haas is better than Gasquet in nearly every department.

Haas' performance made Gasquet look better than he actually was in the last few sets, but Gasquet did play pretty well.

But this will never end, whenever someone gets a clue come a dozen of new ones.

One is an offensive player with a very good serve, wonderful volleys, playing aggressive tennis taking the ball very early with short preparations which clay is the worse surface.

The other is a counter striker with a more defensive game : his serve isn't really a weapon, he takes the ball late, has a long preparation which clay is probably the best surface.

I didn't say he can't play on grass but I still think clay is his best surface. That's my opinion, you can think I'm dreaming but I think his game suits more on clay than on grass. He won also two titles on clay and was in SF at Roma, finalist in Hamburg when it was a MS, and also in SF at Monte-Carlo.

Richie has a long preparation and that's why it's difficult for him to play offensive tennis. He said it also. He can do it because his technique is wonderful but his "natural" game isn't it. Richie is a wonderful player and if he played always like he did today, or even near today he would be in the top 5 on every surface. But clay is still the surface that suits more to his game in my opinion, especially since he improved in the physical department.

Gasquet himself says his best surface is grass. Which makes sense because it forces him to act on instinct instead of standing so far behind the baseline.

Much time without play more than two sets at a maximun level, suppouse.
The same happens to him in Munich SF against Cilic or even worse.
The two first matches were so "easy" to win but not because he did a great tennis, just because his rivals.
Today, yes, he did a Good level first Set, like against Tsonga or like his match against Nadal in australia this year.

Agreed as well.

Gasquet's squash FH, lack of much slice and unperfect volleys, together with his average serving are easier to cover with his great BH regularity on the clay.

He's been winning grass tournaments and matches because he's as talented as to win on anykind of surface (especially when he was younger and had the surprise factor on his side, as well as the limited at the time physicality of the game), but his game is suited best nowadays for clay.
