Tipsarevic sucks balls in every facet of his game, but its enough to succeed to an extent I suppose.

Also, I'm watching him vs Benneteau now and his serve is beauty to watch when clicking. His positioning is very unusual and it looks so nice when he hits an ace. He's maybe the best server among the players with 180cm or shorter height.

I known Nalbandian's backhand has beautiful form and used to one of the best shots in the game, but at the moment it's not just his movement that's poor. I think he's lost some pace and consistency on the groundstrokes, backhand included. Nalbandian's backhand is not really as dangerous as you guys make it seem, he's aging and his game is not where it used to be, as his ranking shows.

Frankly, Tipsarevic's backhand is his biggest weapon and has carried him into the top 10. I think it's a really good shot and definitely a big weapon, and i would probably rank it in the top 5 backhands, atm. I agree that the backhand form initially looks a little awkward because he does occasionally release with guide hand only, but he actually has good form and definitely keeps the top hand on through the entire point of contact, which is where all the power comes from on a two-handed backhand. Sometimes amateur tennis players, like myself, start releasing with the bottom hand or pulling through the motion, instead of pushing with the top hand through the entire point of contact. Janko clearly does not do that because of the obvious facts that he's a professional player and hit the ball really hard.

Yes. Why you think Tomas's BH better than Janko's? Just because he has more power? It's not as consistent as Janko's BH though. And from what i've seen, Janko redirects with his BH better than Tomas and has a better BH DTL than Tomas. Basically 95% of Janko's shotmaking ability comes from the BH side. It's his money shot. Can't say the same for Tomas. There is no big gap between their backhands for sure. Both have world class backhands. I just think Janko's BH is a bit better and he uses it more (maybe because he has so much confidence in that shot).

Good post. I still think Nalby's BH is top when he is on. Have you watched his match vs Nadal in Indian Wells? His BH was great in the 1st 2 sets.

It was a close call, but yes it was mostly because of the power. Berdych has some incredible power off the backhand, makes tons of winners. Del Potro has even more power off the backhand, but he uses it as a setup shot and doesn't make that many winners so didn't include him.

I agree that Janko has more variety off the backhand, but just feel (perhaps wrongly) that Tomas's is slightly more effective. At their best, would take both over Murray's, which I only rated as high because it's more consistent and rarely breaks down.

Yes, it's still great when on. But it's just not that much on anymore, he lacks consistency with it and power seems to have decreased as well. The direction and placement is still there of course.

Nalbandian's backhand is still the best on tour, not to mention the only one completely unaffected by Nadal's topspin forehand. It actually thrives on it.

Pre-injury Benjamin Becker I think was better, Kohli is close, Almagro is equal in serve but slightly taller

Not better than Agassi's, Safin's and Nalbandian's.

Safin, Nalbandian, Agassi, Djokovic, Murray is probably the all time top 5 two handers.

Of the latter two I actually prefer Muzza's CC strike, but Djoker's DTL is a lot better.

That Tipsy backhand to conclude match ag. Benneteau was peace of art (literally including his statue when hit it :)). At the moment yes he's surely in top 5 bhs! He hits it very good both flat and top spin, CC and DTL and is very good at changing direction.

Djokovic, Nadal and Murray's backhands aren't as good as they appear, its really their movement and anticipation which makes that shot so effective.

Kafelnikov's was brutal especially off the return and down the line. He had no qualms over stepping well inside the court and taking the ball on the rise, like Agassi often did, and absolutely drilling it.

Rios' backhand is another one I like. The obvious disadvantage he had was his height.
