RG R3: Delpo def. Cilic 6-3 7-6(7) 6-1

:haha: i was already afraid that 2012 Maya people curse gonna happen. Delpo was serving for second set, had 5 set points at 6-5(0-40 and 2 advantages), had double mini break in tie breaker, Cilic turned it around, was probably a point from winning by retirement and then peak MC showed up, had 6-4 but shanked and easy backhand on his own set point and another easy miss on delpo's set point. One highlight smash in third set should be play of the day at CNN, nobody else except MC isn't capable to produce a shot of such greatness .

delpo obviously struggling with injury but still too much for the biggest artist between losers at ATP

Del Potro def. Del Potro's brain damaged clone, expected, nothing to see here.

How many UE for Cilic?

Cilic frustrating as usual, saved 6 set points, had a double set point on his own and didn't show any signs of tremendous will to win this set to shift the momentum. Perhaps Del Potro could win the 2nd set earlier if the opponent wasn't Cilic.

That 2nd set was awful from Cilic. Still had no idea how JMDP could pull this off in three sets

Delpo's knee is much better. I expected him to be fit vs Berdych

Disappointing from Samanosuke, I was hoping for a more detailed analysis from you on this latest Cilic effort :(

Indeed disappointing from Marin. So many comebacks and saved set points in the 2nd set only to lose it like that. :o
In the first set Del Potro served really well, and Marin threw in two bad service games, and in the third set he just fell apart.
No signs of Delpo's injury today, and a shame Marin had to face him again.

Similar thing happened at Monte Carlo against berdych where Cilic saved triple set point in two games only to lose the last four points since 3:3 in the tie-break. That's a difference between him and Del Potro and Berdych (so players with comparable potential) - he isn't capable to make amazing things in terms of mental stamina.

Cilic had 28 winners- 41 ue's, and 51% 1st serves.

Well, look at that.
I thought Injured-Delp was going to lose.

Really? I wouldn't affirm that, didn't see all the match but it definitely looked like he was struggling at times, sometimes he was looking at his knee with visible pain and as if he was really bothered by it even if it also seemed that he was trying hard to hide it. You could tell that some of the drop shots he hit were with an attitude like 'fuck it, i'm not running this time'. I'm happy it was enough against Marin but in these conditions it's tough not to favour Berdych next.

No one talking about all the Del Po drop shots?

I thought it was hilarious how many times he caught Marin off guard.

Hard to imagine Cilic beating Del Po if he couldn't do more than this today.

He was making grimaces all the time, but no it didn't affect his game. He would play a point, run left and right, his positioning was great and he was always able to pull his strong shots and only after the point was over he'd do a painful grimace.

Lot of comments about Cilic but how was delpo level? Did he play well?

when cilic playing like he played it's difficult to judge his opponent level. delpo played a lot better than in R1 and R2 but even if he didn't cilic would always find a way to lose it

The amount of gimps who can't put an injured crock away on tour is quite disturbingly large.

Del Potro moved a lot better than in his prior matches, but still seemed to be bothered be the pain. Next match is going to be tough, but who knows what to expect?

Cilic really should have taken that second set after saving so many set points.

If Laver came out of retirement and was using his walking stick to move at a snail like pace these mugs would still choke against him.

There was never any injury to begin with.

It's funny that out of three guys ( Montanes, Roger-Vasselin, Cilic) Marin was the only one not to take a set.
Not unpredictable, but funny... and tragic.
