Goffin was simply the more solid player in the important moments. Good win for him and now he's in the second week as a LL.

yes! first grand slam and first 4th round for david

yes it was an easy draw but he took full advantage of it. Very good that he got through this in straight sets too

Kubot leading 5-2* in the first and 5-3* in the second, biggest joke on tour, even bigger then kohlschreiber

Davis Cup atmosphere  Łukasz really hates hostile crowds, there are players who do great in such conditions, he's certainly not one of them. Goffin just too solid, Kubot choked away every lead he had.

Fluke run of the eon. Happy for him though, seems a nice guy
on the flip side, new fucking low, kubot. What a choke.

Great recovery after the little 'meltdown' in the second set!

And a bad start to the match.

Great job :yeah: :worship: Such an amazing boost for his confidence and his ranking.

The AELTC must be paying attention. Goffin already is one of the highest ALTs (but unlikely to get in), so I am 90% convinced that they would give him a WC rather than to choose not to award it (as they have in the past years).

Not at all. Goffin is still very young and has more talent than 80% of the current Top 100. I'd be very surprised if this is the last time he's in a 4R of a GS.

doesnt belgium also have the rule that if a belgian player makes the 4th round or better of a grand slam during an olympic year they will overlook the ranking and let them play if they can?

I read here that their rule included round 4 at a slam so this meets the criteria?

Congrats Goffin....Lukasz could just not hold on to his leads...Served for both the first and second set and got broken...The third was NID...Lost opportunity to make the 4R here...But credit due to the better player...Hopefully, Lukasz plays Prostejov next week, he needs to make up some points badly....225 points to defend at Wimbledon will be a killer....Good luck to Goffin against Federer

Kubot was terrible from 5-3 in the second and seemed to get very frustrated with the crowd.

Anyway, well done David. Enjoy the match against Roger!

Yes it was an easy draw but this is his first GS main draw appearance and it's great he managed to come through it. Also, clay is not even his favored surface.

I agree, of course, that Goffin is a good young talent but I think he's a bit overrated around here. He got a very generous draw after losing in the final round of qualifying against Sousa and basically took advantage of it, which is great effort for sure too. A great boost in the rankings for him now.

I have said this before and I'll say it again. Indeed Goffin got lucky but its exactly the kind of luck that will get him out of the challenger circuits and put him in the tours attention. With his ranking now surely in the 70s, he will enjoy more wildcards and direct entry into qualies at tour level and that's exactly the boost he needed. For once, Lucky Loser is truly lucky and justified!

May he flourish with his great talent! Hope to see him in the top 20s someday, surely has that in him.

...And now officially into my signature. :D

Goffin in the 4th round of Roland Garros  :worship:

I wonder what would he be doing right now if he didn't get a LL place in the draw. Tennis is an amazing sport, you never know what will happen, full of opportunities and sky is a limit. :D

And looking at Fatherer matches this week, he definetly can make it competetive against him, maybe even clinch a set (or two, or three :p)

Goffin might look like a 15-year old, but his game has the wisdom and intelligence of a 30-year old.

My guess is he'll be at least in Top 50 at this time next year.

When I saw him for the first time last year against Wawrinka in Chennai he impressed me as well as a lot of others. Crowd and commentators absolutely loved him (hence why he got a wildcard this year into Chennai).

Saw him at Wimbledon Qualies last year too and had a quick word and he seems a very nice genuine character, great to have someone like him on tour and I'm really glad that he's doing so well. Would love him to get a wildcard into Wimbledon, but before that hopefully he can play a good match against Federer. :)

Kubot, a net rusher, grew so weary of seeing his deep volleys and approach shots get transformed into gold by Goffin’s deft hands that he watched one winner fly by late in the third set. He stared long and hard at Goffin, and then spat in his direction. The spittle came nowhere near the young Belgian, but Kubot was given a code violation by the chair umpire and was booed long and hard by the primarily Belgian crowd.

Disgraceful idiot.

I think this gesture was more towards the Belgian crowd as he was obviously irritated by their support and he said afterwards that Goffin was the deserved winner so it wasn't towards David.

Still very bad sportmanship from him.
