Roland Garros R1: Baghdatis def. Chela 6-3 6-3 6-1

Very strong performance from Marcos, he can trouble Mucho in the next round if he plays like this in R2. Completely dictated play throughout, played offensive tennis and took advantage of Chela's court positioning by moving him around a lot and using angles, hit several effective dropshots, returned very well. Didn't serve at a good percentage but it never mattered because Chela did nothing to hurt Baghdatis off returns. Marcos lost only three points off first serve in the match.

Chela is down to around 80 in the rankings with his QF points off. Didn't serve that great, didn't move that great, didn't really do anything particularly well. Didn't hit the ball that badly but just didn't have anything to impact the match.

Good to see Baghdatis at least appearing motivated. 360 points off for Chela

Good for the game! Chela lost his QF points, now hopefully the Fog takes care of Troicki.

totally expected, Chela is the weakest player on ATP level at the moment. He needs to retire, it's awful to watch how poor he is + he moves like a turtle

Chela didn't hit the ball that badly, he just got outplayed, plus he lacks weapons and doesn't move well. This is what can happen to Chela against shotmakers who are on their game, he gets taken down easily. But Chela is definitely not the player he was even last season, the spark in his game/attitude has totally gone. His fight isn't there like it was.

Like I said in a previous post, Chela is declining hard and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he retires at the end of the season following a low year end ranking. Maybe I'm just stating the obvious but he really looks hopeless and unmotivated on court lately.

Don't get fooled, Chela made Baghdatis look good, he's obviously still in a terrible state.

Hope Trocki take care of that Mugnini.

JIC

Previous posts say it all really. Didn't have much faith in JIC anyway and I expect him to retire this year.
If he can't win matches even on clay, how on earth will he play on hard courts and indoors? :spit:

Maybe he does something in Umag. :p

Chela has problems with his Achilles tendons and has had those problems for a while.
After the match he said he's going to take a break now to try and recover.
He'll finish this season but this has probably been his last RG.

If he's not motivated why waste time and space, retire now.

If he's not motivated why waste time and space, retire now.

He's not 100% physically, that messes up his confidence and perfomance on court resulting in less motivation to fight in a match were things are not going well. Shit happens, you know. One can't always be 100% mentally and motivated, the guy in your avatar sure knows that!

I am surprised by the lopsided score - and that's due to Marcos, not JIC because he's looked poor all clay season.

You mean physically right, because no matter how poor Melzer is physically he always gives as much as he can, he's a pretty motivated guy, how else would someone like him make the top 10.
