Good match from Richie. Served very well on big points, played offensively when the opportunity arose, and was consistent overall, held Zopp accountable with his level.

Zopp hit many huge forehands, lost only nine points on first serve, hit 42 winners and was 23/28 at the net, dictated a lot of play, but made too many errors when he was out of position and not in a position to go for a winner. Zopp was 0/6 on BPs, didn't return consistently well, serve percentage was a bit too low, which cost him in the final tiebreak, and got beaten repeatedly with the serve down the T in the ad court on big points. All in all, he gave a great account of himself and showcased his threatening offensive ability, with more experience, he could have won a set or two here.

Joy to watch :yeah: There are no excuses for him this year. He's got good form coming in. Didn't Zopp know about Richard's backhand before coming into this match

I'm impressed by how Zopp has improved. He packs a lot of power and seems very fit. Today didn't return well and just fell short in the big points, could definitely have taken a set here. Gasquet was good as well, hope he continues to hit through his forehand like he did today instead of the usual looping crap.

Jurgen definitely showed up for the occassion today....Good fight against a really tough 1R opponent...He could definitely have went further here with a better draw...The stats look really good as well except for the break points...Could have been blown off the court considering the venue, the fans, the center court, and it being his first MD match at the French...very solid no doubt...Im impressed...Sucks that he didn't get Lopez 1R...unlucky draw, but great effort

It was funny to see how Zopp plays on clay is if it is normal hardcourt  both point construction and movement. Anyway it looked pretty well cause the courts in Paris are quick as for clay. He can cause some surprise during US Open.

Good effort from Zopp, now onto the grass. It's not like he doesn't know how to play on clay.

I will also watch the replay in the evening. My boy did really well according to the score, first time ever on such a big court.

And good luck to Richard! :cheerleader:

He actually did really well....Really strong stats....Looking forward to seeing him at Wimbledon and the and the USO....For a 1st MD match here, he did excellent against a home favorite and Top 20 player...impressive amount of winners and strong 1st serve points won...Hope he can get some practice in before Nottingham and go far there too next week

Thank you Fee-Lo Green for a fair assessment of Zopp...After this, do you still think he is unworthy to be in the Top 100?:p

I think he's a better player than I gave him credit for. He's a decent talent for sure. He does a lot of things well, nothing amazing, but everything he does is good, except his movement is a bit weak.

Good fight from Zopp in 3rd, but still too many errors.Gasquet was never in real danger though, he knew how hard it is to win your first RG main draw match from personal experience.

Looks like Zopp ise healthy again and in good form. Grass is not his best surface, but I hope he gets directly into Wimby MD, needs only 3-4 withdrawals to make it happen. To play Wimby quali in rainy Roehampton is not fun at all, we know this from last year.

That wasn't the question though....I asked if you still thought he was unworthy of the Top 100?

Really? He almost qualified for Wimby MD last year....Lost to Beck in 5 in the FQR...I would think his chances on grass would be good because of his serve and his net game seems to be pretty good as well (won a fair share of net points today) You are right though, I hope he gets in directly...Grass is a unique surface and only lasts a few weeks really...I could see several clay courters skipping it tbh and whoever is injured, etc at that time....Hope he keeps his form up and gets into the USO main draw...he would stand a good chance there in this form

Zopp has huge FH and is physically very strong, but Gasquet used his experience on dirt very wisely and won all 3 sets at the end...Jurgen was just too impatient/inconsistent on ROS to make more of a match here. Gasquet looks pretty good too and could go on a nice run in this event

You were the Zopphater, right?
Of course he's not an amazing talent like Federina or Gasquet :p ;) but he seems to be a hard worker and that's always a plus.

Decent match by Jurgen :yeah: I am just surprised, why was he playing so much on Gasquet's backhand. He should have known or at least should have understood during the match that it is not Richie's weaker wing.
