Highest number of serves in a single point?

You know like when you hit the net cord 5 times in a row on your 1st serve, then get 2 overrules on your 1st serve, then hit the net cord 7 times on your 2nd serve and then there is an over-rule in the rally and then you hit the net cord another 5 times on your 2nd 1st serve...etc... and you end up hitting 30 serves in an individual point - who (and when) on the pro tour has served the most serves within the space of a single point?

Great question/thread as usual.

30 serves

Well, at least it's not winning 108 masters without a single slam

There was a similar thread this year and someone noticed that Dolgopolov needed 5 serves to play a point in Rotterdam or something like that. I've never seen more than 4.

I´ve seen 4 letcords (Nieminen?) but I already don´t remember if he missed first serve then or not.

Sometimes happen 2 let-cords on 1st serve (recently I saw it in the Lopez-Isner match in Houston), then a missed one, followed by a good one which makes 4 serves already, it's rare that a player hits net-cords on 1st and 2nd serve before a point. Let caused by flying object happens rarely, so usually it happens when a player before and after a point didn't hit net-cord. I assume that a record might be 7:

(1)net-(2)net-(3)missed serve-(4)a good one, but let during a rally-(5)net-(6)missed one-(7)conclusion after DF or a rally

You have to think outside the box.

What if you have something like this:

1) Let
2) Let
3)missed first serve
4) DF, but a challenge shows that the serve was on the line
5) Let First serve
6) Let second serve
7) missed serve
8) second serve let
9) DF into the stands

Haas against volandri ytd had 2 good first serves called out, overruled by umpire.

3rd serve was a fault.

Got it over on his 4th one.

I don't know the Rotterdam point your talking about, so I probably did not watch the match, but I did see Dolgo hit 4 consecutive lets and eventually double fault if I'm not mistaken, at 2011 Indian Wells R3 vs Del Potro. So thats also 6.

seven is the record, in this match - http://www.atpworldtour.com/Share/Match-Facts-Pop-Up.aspx?t=560&y=1996&r=2&p=O099 - at *2-5 in the 4th set

Perhaps I confused Rotterdam with IW :)

I'm sure this is unlikely, unless the guy serving is trying to make a point.:o

(Of course, the point could end up being replayed due to a bad line call after a 357 hit rally...).

So you could end up with 18 serves, which, if Rafa is serving, mean, let's see.... 18x5 is 90 ball bounces, 36 hair tucking behind ears (18 each ear), 18 towels, 22 ass pickings (1 for each ball plus random 4 to be on the safe side)....

Hope I miss that game!!
