Roland Garros R1: [WC] Clement def. Bogomolov 6-2 3-6 4-6 7-6(2) 5-4* RET

Bogo had 40-0 in the final game.

Arno is a warrior!!! :worship: Bogo cramped on the next to last point of the match running down a dropshot and got defaulted on a time violation, being unable to play the final point.

34 years old and still physically outlasts most of his contemporaries in these marathons :)

Bogo tried to serve but it really wasn't going to work for him. The crowd started booing but Clement told them to hush.

Retirement on match point... doesn't happen quite often :D

I didn't hear a point penalty, Bogo just received a warning and realized he couldn't play another point...

Bogo got a time violation before with the cramp problem. He tried to serve but couldn't do it.

No sympathy got to manage your electrolyte, water intake to cover fluid loss on a hot day and even better treatment wasn't allowed.

Clement did well in telling the crowd not to boo and they didn't but Bogomolov should have served it out in the 4th set.

Lol, what a joke. Losing on fysique to this old man.
But Bogo was one of the easiest draws, draw was so rigged.

Bogomolov played a good match most of the time hitting some very big points but Clement managed to stay in it after a terrible 3rd set and looked fresher in the 5th with the crowd giving him a great push. But then to see Bogomolov retire at 5-4 was just heart breaking.

Very nice of Clement to shoosh the crowd as they started booing Bogomolov right before he retired.

BTW I don't think he got a time violation, he's the one who started walking towards the umpire before the umpire said anything... looked like a retire to me...

Retirement on match point... doesn't happen quite often :D

I think in his case, itīs not that rare:p

I donīt know what happened, I didnīt hear anything about point penalty (he recieved just time violation), he came to the net and it was over...I donīt blame him though, if he really had cramps and he canīt move and wasnīt allowed to have MTO, itīs OK...most of us wouldnīt give a F if the match would end by retirement or not, if we would be in his case...itīs not like he retired at 1-5 0-40...it was 4-5 Ad in fifht.

Scoreline reads retired. A shame that Mr. Bogolomov cramped, but if I had played that match I would served it out even if had to crawl to the line and hit it underhand. Clement deserved to win that match and have the crowd give him the full applause he rightly deserved. Instead Clement had to do the sportsman like thing and tell the crowd to be quiet, since he was obviously hurting.

Respectfully,

RG site has it as an retirement.
One point, just one point Bogo.As I recall, this is not the first time this douchebag has retired mp down. This time he was injured, and I hope it's not too bad but he could've and should've played that point, you dont retire on mp unless you cant stand.
Btw the match was disastrous and I'd be very, very surprised if Clement wins another match.

I stuck a few pennies on Clement to convert the mp after the cramp.

That's why I'm furious. Bogo is a piece of crap.

Which match was that and why did it happen?

Well Bogomolov was an easy draw, and I presume the match was low-quality (but high entertainment/value). But it's great to see Arnaud taking advantage of his WC. He's a great player and will be sorely missed.

Masters '72 (semifinal), Gorman led against Smith 7-6 6-7 7-5 5-4* (40/30) - absolutely amazing retirement considering circumstances, if Gorman had won another point it would have been the biggest result of his life.

with an awesome serve and volley

Filo V.
05-28-2012, 05:22 PM
Clement was up a break in the fourth set and yes, then eventually saved MP at 5-6 with serve and volley. Arno started going to net a lot more and dropshotting more from the end of the fourth set through the fifth set. The match quality was average. It wasn't dreadful, but it also wasn't truly ATP quality. The entertainment and the fans made up for that.

This is some concept to be remembered when you're mediocre tennis player. To be honest I prefer match point-down fugitives like Bogomolov than over-ego-morons like Koellerer.

That's just lame. If you're cramping and it's your serve on match point, hit an underhand serve into the net or use the point penalty. It's a real win instead of this retirement nonsense.

Wow! I thought Clement had retired! The last time I remember watching Clement play Schuttler in 2008 in a Grand Slam quarterfinal.

And cut off the slack on Bogomolov, he was cramping a lot.
