Very routine after a shaky first set. Never had to get out of second gear, got a lot better as the match went on. Potito got tired after the first set and a half but definitely gave a great account of himself the first half of the match, showed he does still have some game left.

Very clean match by both. Starace played surprisingly well.

Novak with 39 winners to 19 UEs and Starace with 25 winners to 27 UEs.

Novak being very bold on the returns; they either hit the line or just beyond it (when making and missing)

Great stats! :yeah:
And some people say Djokovic doesn't hit many winners.

Not as fast as Roger but routine. Starace wouldn't win the first set tb even if he had 5-1...

Nole was terrible in the crucial points of the first set but slowly improved as the match progressed.

Despite the good stats, Novak didn't play that good. He was very shaky, I fear for his back (his smashs were very soft)

Please point me to a time when Djokovic was consistently hitting confident, hard overheads.

Starace caused a few problems in the first set but overall, it was comfortable for Djokovic.

Starace played very good in the first set. He played the first set like a top 20 player.
Nole played the first set pretty average. But than activated the 2.0 Advanced Capability Patch. Set 2 and 3 he played like a real nr. 1.

i know you can only lose a slam in the 1st week but nothing about djokovic's play right now says to me he will be beating rafa on this surface.

Exactly. he played a bad tournament up until semis when he raised his game to another level and played two great matches against Tsonga and Rafa. So what's your point? All players look less convincing in the first stages of a slam, Rafa the first of them.

In case you haven't noticed Nadal is a whole lot better at RG than at Wimbledon. Not even a discussion.

Will LOL if Screech does not win RG this year.

I can't see Nadal winning off clay slams anymore but he is more likely to win RG still.

this.

when djokovic beat nadal on clay last year he was playing lights out tennis most of the time and was playing so much better than now.

he can beat nadal on other surfaces going into the match not playing great, but on clay djokovic needs to be in the zone, completely grooved and on top form to beat rafa. i don't see him pulling out a performance like that when he hasn't been doing it in earlier rounds.

How was Novak playing anyway? Was he good? I heard Starace played well so a close score does not say much.

Did you even watch a match vs Kamke?Fed was awful. All we need is a semi decent in form player and Fed will be packing.

Olderer can play at 1% and still every non top 5 player will choke against him.

Seen R1 of 2010 Wimbleon? That's what's gonna happen to all of his opponents.

Really?Let me ask you something, which is Fed's strongest surface? Is it clay? No,it's not. It's grass. And did he sleepwalk to SF at Wimby last year? No.He got knocked out by Stronga. So,just wait and see an early exit of Fedmug.
