Roland Garros R1: Kubot def. K. Beck 7-5 6-2 7-5

Karol missed a lot of chances. Very disappointing. But when you make 54 errors in three sets on clay, you will not win. 3/16 on break points was Beck, including chances at 5 all to serve for the third set. Karol was up a break twice in the first set.

Hopefully Florent takes out Kubot in the next round and given Kubot's struggles here, that should be very possible.

Kubotīs odds were gone everywhere before the match.

Karol missed a lot of chances. Very disappointing.

That is an understatement...His break point conversion was horrific....NID result considering Beck is a walking bye at RG....never made it to the 2nd round...Great job Lukasz...Definite opportunity to make the round of 16 now, with a qualifier journeyman next and then possibly Stepanek who isn't anything to write home about on clay...Hope he takes advantage of Lopez retiring...Make a run Lukasz:wavey:

No, I guess Karol was fighting. Loss was very very expected, I even expected more impressive scoreline for Kubot. So, Kubot was probably poor also, because Karol definitely and surprisingly had some chances in this match. Itīs still a shame that Karol is so awful on the clay. Hopefully Kubot will lose in 2nd round, like he deserves. But he has such a great draw, so I donīt know. Serra is much better than Karol on the French clay, but will it be enough?

Considering how bad is Beck on clay, this is OK result. He should have won first and third set, but lack of clay matches showed on his game.

I know how he wanted to make at least 2nd round, but now he has enough time to prepare for two Nottingham challengers and then probably Wimbledon main draw. This will be probably his last maind draw appereance for some time, because he is defending 115 points at Wimby. Challenger times call again ..

Serra has the game to beat Kubot but we'll see if that game is at a high enough quality. I think it could very well be, since Kubot is a choker anyway and will probably choke in that match against a Frenchman who will have a lot of crowd support.

Struggles? Fee-Lo Green, you are so desperate for Serra to get a win...Kubot is a pretty good player and is ranked much higher than Serra and came all the way from qualifying to make the 3R at the French last year and the 4R of Wimbledon (could have beat Lopez to make the QF)....Your shade throwing is endless to hype your faves...I hope Lukasz trashes Serra just for you...Always talkin outta your ass and denigrating players better than your weak irrelevant faves...

How could the odds be favoring Beck? He has never won a 1R at Roland Garros...That doesnt make any sense

 He did nothing, I don't see why he would deserve a loss.

When at third? At 2-*4 or *4-5 and 0-30?

First - he led 4-3 with break.

Third - 3 bp's in a row at 5-5, 0:40

I saw livescores on that point in the third, given it is on clay, I thought he will be able to take it to the fourth. Then I came back and saw 5-7. :o

I didn't say anything about the first set, that's okay but he had these bps after he broke back, then almost lost on return. ;) Anyway no matter, a break or few break points doesn't mean too much on clay, you know.

Kubot probably had to play a very poor match. Letīs be honest, Beck is an absolutely poor clay-court player, absolutely poor! And Kubot was unexpectingly fighting and struggling there for almost 3 hours, saving BPs etc... Not impressive for me. It should be much easier, but it wasnīt. He was only lucky he played vs. Beck, because he could be packing his bags in the other cases. Thatīs the reason I said he deserves 2nd round exit. And yeah, I donīt like Kubot, but thatīs the other story...

Yeah, I should say I didnīt watch whole match on livescore, Beck should have been satisfied to prolong that match on today.

But I like Kubotīs game, particulary on grandslams. Beck should have drawn Dancevic or Lacko to reach 2nd round :D

Yeah, Serra has the game to beat tons of guys....Oops, you poor thing...Sera is ranked #156, not #26...It's okay, I know math is hard...It's easy to see why you might think a journeyman ranked outside the Top 150 is so much better than a guy who fights hard at slams and went deep at RG and Wimby from the qualies last year...Man, from the way you hype him, I would think Serra would be ranked Top 30...I wonder why he isn't? Oh, that's right, because he is obviously losing a lot of matches to be ranked that low, or not consistent, or not enough game to compete with top players. But I'm sure you have some explanation for it, right? It's amazing how you justify hating on such a nice guy like Lukasz who has fought hard to get back to the Top 50 and play at theOlympics...Trashing good guys to hype your faves for a win is disgusting at best

Why so much hate for Lukasz? What has he done to deserve this? He works really hard and fights against these guys to win...A year ago he was outside the Top 140...He has really stepped up...Besides, the 1R of any slam can be hard...Lots of players find themselves struggling in the 1R, doesn't mean they are horrible players...It's not like this match went to five long sets or something...People are hating on Lukasz for no reason whatsoever...Im happy for the guy...He is 30 and still fighting in this sport against guys half his age most of the time...He deserves some credit

I looked the starts and the first set must have been ugly, they both had lot of UEs, I just looked what it is.. Don't know, Kubot can start tournaments badly.
Btw I agree with your post mostly, just still don't understand why he would deserve a loss in next round. You can imagine Kubot had tournaments (GSs too) where he didn't "deserve" a first round loss still got it. It happens sometimes.

The whole match was close, they both missed million chances, as the score shows, mostly Beck who couldn't live with them. Nothing special, really. But Kubot had chances as well to be even easier it.
Better luck in his next tournaments!
