An escape for Gilles here. Definitely not a great match from his perspective and his serve bailed him out often, but the difference in this match was fitness, and missed opportunities for Sijsling. 5/19 on BPs for Sijsling. Igor wore down in the fifth set and simply couldn't maintain his level or get into as many return games the end of the match, but overall he was the better player.

Gilles served his best in the match the final set and a half and that, more than anything, got him through. Alternated some great returns, volleys and baseline shots with horrendous errors all over the court, but a win is a win.

Sijsling dead arm in the 5th?

Watched just the last set, I don´t think it was that horrible...Sijsling, who had a lot of supporters there, played some nice S&V :hearts: He took a MTO at 5-4 in third because of right arm, hopefully nothing serious, but it doesn´t look it limited him a lot.

didn't see the match so can't comment properly, but if sijsling took a time out at 5-4* up in the final set when it wasn't an emergency (as seems to be the case), then he's classless

Oh, a Dutch player losing a tight five setter from 2-1 up?

Sijsling looked legitimately hurt and he struggled after taking the MTO, his game fell apart and he wilted physically.

Battle of the mugs The less bad one won.

Anyone is a mug to you. It's obvious because you have a list of players you hate instead of a list of players you support.

Anyway, the match had some nice old-school points, but plenty of silly errors. Sijsling probably would have won if not for his arm to spasm at the end. Good win for Muller

As he,s a lefty and we have similar serves ( no I am not flattering myself ) I am glad Muller got threw but to be honest this guy,s lucky to get past round 1 , Hitting threw Clay courts is a mad tactic but it can work , Gilles will lose to first decent returner he faces thought !
