Very good turnaround from Jo. Good serving the final three sets and was much more solid but also more assertive at the same time, more aggressive with his court positioning, didn't allow the Russian to tee-off like he was in the first set, hit some great forehands and backhands alike. Kuznetsov flashed his awesome ballstriking ability and hit some amazing returns, but was ultimately too inconsistent after the first set and lacks a degree of fitness.

Entertaining match and a good win for Tsonga.

Excellent first set from Kunzetsov, controlled every point. Could not keep it up though.

this pisses me off. Andrey could have beaten alot of the guys in the draw but he got stuck with tsonga:sad:

he fought really well. Hopefully his next grand slam he'll have a better first round

sometimes the draw is so unfair..you've got 2 talented guys like this facing off and then 2 clay clowns like soeda/tursunov guaranteeing 1 of them in the 2nd round

Always great to see Santoro interviewed, looking sharp also. As for the match, Kuznetsov was dominant in the first, bashing all over (but inside) the court. He pretty much crumbled after that, but good turnaround for Jo :)

Good first set from Kuznetsov. He looks like he could be a good player, needs to be a little more patient.

Andrey has a very nice and eye-pleasing game. Has to fine-tune a proper mix of consistency and shotmaking and he can go places. Experience prevailed.

Kuznetsov definitely has some fitness issues, he got tired during/after points, which resulted in him ejecting himself from the point.

Andrey is so talented that I cheered against Jowilly during the match.

Good win for Tsongy ;) But Andrey :(

Andrey show very few patience in the end, because of stamina issues. Without these ones, this match could be so different. What a shotmaker the russian is!

Andrey is really talented. Why his ranking so low? A player with his talent should be in the top 100 at the very least. Even if he is inconsistent.

he was making good progress but he got injured and that kind of slowed him down a bit. Otherwise, yeah he might be in the top 100 by now or at the very least alot closer than he is

i expect he'll be there or close by the end of the year if he can stay healthy

Happy that Tsonga won. Great guy :yeah: I have to say Kuznetsova's game is really pleasing to the eye. Tough draw for him though...even for a two time GS champion...

Oh I see. I really like his game and his ballstriking. Very enjoyable to watch. I would like to see more of him. Hopefully he will fulfill his potential in the near future. He is very talented and can go far in his career if he imporves his game and fitness.

Surprised this was a qualifier who'd only been in one GS draw before (and that was a WC) because Andrey is good enough to make main draws easily. It seems he needs to think better on the court but the tools are there.

Good match for Jo to get through. Still played well and it wasn't very physically draining.

kuznetsov has such a gorgeous backhand, it is a lovely rounded swing that he pivots into when hitting closed stance so well. but he has no idea about point construction and just goes about swing away.

tsonga was pretty basic throughout, but did pick it up as the match went on a bit

Not done enough in the challengers, basically. Only just won his first one earlier this month.

Kinda tough down there - he's lost to guys like Serra, Volandri, Haider, Maxi-Gonzalez, Junq, Crivoi, Goffin, Souza, Muller and so on.

Kuznetsov isn't really a great player. He's got a ton of natural talent, but that alone does not make a player good. He's a big talent who is extremely raw, and physically undeveloped. Hopefully people don't start bandwagoning him after this match, as it will likely end in disappointment.

Agree. If he can learn how to play smartly, he has the potential to be a really good player.

Kuznetsov surprised me big time, pretty much has the complete game but mentally and physically isn't in shape. If he correct that definitely could be a top 30 player.

Tsonga was good overall and looks like he may live up to his seeding. :D

whether or not you agree he's got a bright future. He's got some things he needs to work on but once he sorts them out he'll be a great player

well he did make a final that he lost to gremelmayr a couple years back. Not long after that he started struggled with injuries and really its only been recently that he got things back on the right track
