Despite the loss to Mayer, Ryan didn't play too bad (seemed a lot more comfortable than the last couple of weeks). He had his chances early in the third set, but his serve failed him at the end. When Mayer was returning serve way behind the baseline during the third set, Ryan should have serve and volley (he had successes in the 2nd set, but seemed to have gotten away from it towards the end of the match).

It seems that he always has a bad first-set.......sigh
I almost thought he had a great chance to win at the first few games of the third set, until that love game ...

SapELee
05-20-2012, 01:42 PM
Yeah, he is known to be a slow starter. It is trending to where his opponents are now electing to receive against him . Don't think it will change any time soon .

Flight continues. Doubles: Blake/Harrison vs. Berlocq/Chela

After more-than-two-hour single and a doubles, I think at least he will sleep well tonight. :P

Such a pouring rain in Dusseldorf. I think they might not be able to play today. At least I cannot wait for it anymore. It's almost 3 a.m. and tomorrow (actually today) is Monday... :(

Ito surprisingly defeated Stepanek. I hope Ryan can at least defeat one Japanese player (it seems easier than to defeat one of these two Czechs), so that he can earn 35 (or 25) points....

SapELee
05-20-2012, 06:56 PM
He might not play all singles matches. At some point, I expect Blake to jump in the singles (probably wants to play a match before RG).

wuliaude2012
05-21-2012, 11:14 AM
continues the delay game from yesterday (6-7, 1-4)
and blake/harrison lost to chela/berlocq: 6-7, 4-6

05-21-2012, 11:20 AM
hope I'm not the only one who watched this delayed death rubber doubles, instead of another Djorker/Nadel final :p

(but it seems so...)

tomorrow USA vs. CZE. Ryan got one day break (Roddick vs. Berdych, Blake vs. Stepanek). Yay, they heard me and might put Ryan against Japan~! (but both Ito and Soeda played really well in these two days...)

Such a pouring rain in Dusseldorf.

It was not just rain, it was hail. And LOADS of it  I was there and have never seen something like that before. It got dark and then the umpire announced that play was suspended due to lightning. And then they announced for the crowd to immediately leave the court. Just like two minutes later the rain and hail came, scary.

Go Ryan! Fight!

SapELee
05-29-2012, 05:20 PM
I hope his younger brother is not as bad, if so they might drive me to an early retirement from tennis .

Seriously, I'm still upset about yesterday. Someone needs to drag that boy to some place windy and train for a month because he has a hard time adapting to the wind (especially his serve). It is not a norm for him to miss 4-5 first serves in a row. Ryan's game just seems to fall apart when his serve is not clicking.

Thank goodness, the grass season will be upon him soon.

From Nick Bollettieri
http://blog.imgacademies.com/2012/05/29/nicks-thoughts-on-the-first-weekend-of-the-french-open/

Ryan Harrison: Just one breakdown can turn a match around!
Ryan Harrison was playing one of the top players and a great talent in Gilles Simon. Harrison not only won the first set, but was leading in the 2nd set 5-4 40-15 until he pressed a bit and lost the game. Right after that, he bounced his racket behind him, barely missing the ball boy, and landing in an open area below the court. That’s when the entire stadium turned against him. Including the commentators, who before were applauding his game and future.

What Happened?
The match really ended there, because Ryan’s focus vanished and he never regained his form that help him get out to a lead. This is sad to me, because I saw Ryan on a daily basis. He spends some time training with his dad, who is one of my top teaching pros, at the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy. Ryan is always kind and polite to everyone when he is training here. There is no question in my mind, as well as so many top coaches, that he the qualities to be one of the world’s top players. But to become a top talent, he needs to adjust his mental focus to succeed.

He's now No. 1 Alt. in Eastbourne and should be able to get in (two places for SEs which might not be filled).

So many seeds are knocked out early in Queen's. Ryan should play Queen's..........
(but he'd rather stay in US, watching NBA, boxing, going to fancy sushi restaurant and BBQ)

If he doesn't do something with the return, he's not winning this, plain and square.

benji47
06-25-2012, 03:59 PM
There's been no groundstrokes, no footwork, no rhythm, no aggression, no concentration, Lu's gotta really suck to lose this.

He finally gets a kinder first round, yet he plays so tentatively, just beyond disappointing.

SapELee
06-25-2012, 04:01 PM
Yeah, he is very passive right now.

benji47
06-25-2012, 04:06 PM
Well he's been passive for a long time, but even when he's passive, he's rarely tentative. Today, he's just been playing like he's running on broken glass, a whole bunch of random slices and aimless shots, catching half of the Lu's second serves on the racket frame. I don't know what makes him so tense...

SapELee
06-25-2012, 04:36 PM

Despite the loss, Ryan didn't play too bad. He needs to learn how to play the big moments better and really needs to work on his return (which has been said all year). I'm disappointed though that he didn't approach the net that much. His netgame is one of his strengths, but he rarely comes to the net anymore (a lot less than last year). Also, if only he plays like this all the time, not only on big stages, we (his fans) wouldn't have to suffer so much :o.

Ryan is playing doubles with Ebden as expected. Good luck guys.

Well whatever reason it is he NEEDS to get the fvck over it, because getting broken so many times on a grass court against someone like Bemelmans is beyond embarrassing.

IMO losing to Americans except Isner is a pretty embarrassing thing in general these days, no matter the rankings.

If I won a match over Mardy Fish or Andy Roddick, people would be impressed.

He needs to play Los Angeles because he got to the semis last year and has points to defend. He will probably be the first or second seed and could possibly win it. Let's hope he can still make it to London!

I don't mind him skipping LA if he can defend his points in Atlanta. Ryan usually doesn't play well when jet-lagged. I rather him have adequate prep time for the Olympics.

SOOOOOOOOO PASSIVE in the TB..........

He's never gonna beat a top player if he just folds like a cheap tent when it really matters.

Well, I guess moving on to Atlanta. Ryan is always gonna have rough time with big servers I'm afraid; needs a lot of work on his return.
