Who is the best player in the World today?

Busterovic

The answer for me is easy and its Roger Federer. Although he has only a 1-1 record against Nadal and a 1-0 record against Murray (he hasn't played Djokovic this year), hes won 4 titles and he has 2 AMS titles.

He's been pretty much unbeatable aside from two matches this year against Rafa in Melbourne where he inexplicably broke down after the firework delay and in DC where he lost to Isner. The Roddick match obviously counts but it was a jaded Federer

I think its between Fed and Nole as with the level Nadal shown being sub par.

Let's see...
In clay Nadal
In fast hardcourt Federer
In Ice/blue clay, Federer
In slow hardcourt Djokovic
In dreams, Murray
In grass let's wait until next month...

So, considering that, the obvious answer is Berlocq.

Inexplicable? No it's not. It's so easy to see Federer just can't elevate his level as much as Rafole. They are unstoppable at slams, and I'm sorry, but Federer can rule all he want, when the money is on the line, he gets dealt with by the actual best two players in the world

But seriously, Federer. He's won four titles, including two Masters. He's defeated Nadal, defeated Murray, made SF at Aus Open, had a 15-match winning streak, and of course won 45 of his last 48 matches. No brainer IMO.

Djokovic. A GS, a M1000(and a Final and SF). He lost to Isner in Miami because of two tie-breaks in a match where Isner was playing the match of his life, to Nadal in MC (unstoppable there) and in the unplayable surface.

the votes on here are silly.

it would make sense to vote Federer but to vote Djokovic equally to him just because he barely won Australia?

Federer's 2012 record = 28-3

Nadal's 2012 record = 28-4

Djokovic's 2012 record = 26-4

... am I missing something?

Nadal has played well I don't get the discredit that is being given to him. Novak much worse than last year. I would say so far that Novak and Nadal have been about equal with Federer probably the best. however, having watched their matches in THE LAST DAY, by far Nadal looked the most solid on this surface and in general AT THE MOMENT.

don't get his lack of votes. illogical. Nadal played great against Granollers, Federer pretty well, and Djokovic eh

Exactly.
However the rankings are what determine who is the best player in the world and it is very clear that is Djokovic.

So the actual No.1 is automatically the best player in the world. Right. Now I wonder how you felt about this a year ago, when your boy was winning literally everything from january, but Nadal was still No.1 (mainly beacuse of his 2010 performance).

70-68
05-18-2012, 11:32 AM
Anyways, it depends on what you mean as 'today'...
In 2012, it is probably Djokovic.
Post AO, it is probably Federer. 2 MS 1000 titles, Dubai, Rotterdam, lost only one match on the tour after AO.
In the clay season, it is probably Nadal.

You can look at this in many different ways.

Filo V.

Nadal TODAY is the best player in the world. Tomorrow that could change.

Federer is the answer overall. His form the past 9 months simply cannot be pushed aside. He's been the best player post-USO and is on track to potentially regain the #1 spot, so yeah, it's pretty obvious he's the best player in general currently.

The poll results

Djokovic is going for the Novak Slam next week at the French Open, yet he's not considered the best player in the world around here?

This place is more Fedtard-filled than I expected. A player vying to become the first man since Rod Laver to hold all 4 Slams at once is not the best player in the world. Yeah right

BauerAlmeida
05-18-2012, 05:34 PM
The player leading the ranking and the race is the same one. So I don't see how there can be any sort of discussion. I mean, he was he best player for the last 52 weeks and he has been the best of this year so far.

GSMnadal
05-18-2012, 05:39 PM
People are way to focused on recent results in tournaments, just because novak isn't winning them, doesn't mean he's not the best right now. He peaks for slams, and the other tournaments are to make sure he arrives in good shape at them.

Lance Armstrong wasn't winning the pre Tour de France races because he wanted to peak for the big one, same could be said for other greats in other sports.

Even if Nadal wins RG, overall my pick is still Novak because of Nadal's obvious clay greatness. Wait untill RG/Wimbledon, then we have a much better indication and can see if someone else has taken over.

ya idiot, the thread asks TODAY. as in recently or literally their last matches. both recently and their last matches, Djokovic is not in the best form of the 3. Federer and Nadal are currently playing better than Djokovic. no one is desputing Djokovic is #1 in the world currently, the question is who is in best form. no way is it Djokovic, clearly a lot of people voted in the poll without considering the question. If Federer beats Novak and Nadal wins the tournament the skewed votes are going to seem so silly, Nadal's form against Berdych was astronmically better than that of Federer and Djokovic thus far this week

Pretty clear: Indoor - Fed; Slow Hard - Djokovic; Clay - Nadal - that's why the rankings are as close as they are - the top 3 have dominated their best surfaces the last 8/9 months. Nadal only lost on weird blue clay otherwise he's only lost one set since the RG final last year - to Del Po in DC final - won DC SF matches, F matches, MC and Barca without dropping a set etc...

No need to go into Fed's indoor domination or Novak's great results in Oz, IW and Miami. Grass is practically only one event so can't really say one person is the best just because of a win though this year with Wimby and Olympics might change things....

So for this year alone it's Novak - a slam, a Masters, a Masters final. Over the longer term it's Fed and over the very short term (since MC) it's Rafa.
