Rome R3: Seppi def. Wawrinka 6-7(1) 7-6(6) 7-6 (6) saving 6 mps

Entertaining match with plenty of drama. The crowd providing great atmosphere and Stani stirred them up a few times.

Seppi served for the 1st set, but couldn't get it done and then Seppi breaking Stani when he served for the match in the 3rd set.

Led 3-0 in the tb, lost 6 points in a row then was able to get it done saving 6 mps in the match.

All I can say is wow. Third best match of the year after Nole's two huge victories in Melbourne. Seppi respect level just sky rocketed. Third set tiebreaker was surreal. Seppi got up 3-0, then down 6-3 before tying it at 6-6. Poor Stani seems to get in a lot of spots where he's playing a lesser player on their home turf and has the crowd against him. Epic, epic match. Good for the Italians.

This is the kind of match that you get when you put two chokers out there. Sure the match was really dramatic and an emotional rollercoaster but both were pretty much pushing on big points and every critical point ended with Wawrinka hitting a ball long or 2/3 up from the bottom of the net.

This match was torture for me since I hate Seppi. The crowd willed him through it, even though he looked like he would also blow that tiebreak lead, but Stan made sure that wouldn't happen. God, I hope Federer double bagels this WTA-serve mug.

It's so hard to explain as a fan, an Italian fan.

This has been one of the most thrilling matches I have ever watched among men. I am so proud for Andreas, he simply never gave up. He deserves all the respect of this world for what he has been doing in the past few weeks, he is just amazing! Best result ever in his career, and now it doesn't matter how it will end, I am simply too proud of him.
I know some people will not understand the crowd's behaviour. I think it doesn't need to be explained, they have been fantastic for the whole week, and have supported Andreas like crazies. Italy loves tennis, and Rome is a beautiful tournament. Thank you all :yeah:

As for Wawrinka, nothing to say. He is just disgusting: when up with the score, he was mocking the crowd, sure he would have won this. I am happy he lost, he doesn't have any respect for other players and for the crowd, and today he showed it clearly.

Thank you Andreas. Just thank you.

What a match! Rome courts always brings some drama. Anyone remember last year match between Soderling and Verdasco? What a choke it was from the Spaniard, just wonder if it was the same courts.

No, it was Supertennis Arena on which DelPo and Tsonga are playing now.

Seppi was SO EPIC! :worship::worship::bowdown:He fought all the way and played some very entertaining points. I was sure Wawrinka was going to close it out on the fourth, fifth match point. But unbelievably Seppi still won! Amazing poowerful all court tennis. Seppi has won a lot of fans in Rome. I wonder if he will win any more.

You can't call Seppi just a "Hewitt look-a-like" anymore. I think he's taken on a bit of his persona.

What a win. More emotional than the win vs. Nadal in Rotterdam 08, probably more satisfying too.

Looks more like Dirk Nowtizki I think.

Great win Andy absolute huge win and he made all us who call him a choker before look shameful. He has definitely matured and I think he will have his best ever ranking soon enough and possibly looking at trying to break the top 20. First Italian for a while if he can.

Bad pic. He does look like Hewitt...not a deadlock but there's a resemblance.

I don't think he has a coach at the moment.

Ohh well. Explains some things. I suggest Wawrinka gets a coach ASAP then, even if he has to buy one on eBay

You're serious? He's almost 30 years old and has never cracked the top 25. Full marks for showing elephant balls but the real deal? Comeonsome players mature later

One of the best matches of 2012 so far. Felt kinda bad for Wawa but Seppi really played well to take it from him.

Still, Clownppi might give Olderer half a decent fight, instead of dropping the soap like Mugwrinka always does :o
