Nadal looks very comfortable grinding away here.

I was going to say it was a quick match, but it was still 1 1/2 hours. An easy match maybe more appropriate, Granollers didn't offer anything outside a couple of games early on.

Ben.

Scoreline flatters Rafa some, he was pretty patchy but at least he was quite aggressive. Needs to cut down on the silly errors, especially those when he is comofrtably in control of the point. His serve was not as secure as against Flo either.

Granollers started brightly and could have gone ahead with a break. He was also making some poor errors throughout and wasted a few chances on return because of it.

Nadal doing S/V at will
Granollers staying in Napoli for the returns

Thank you, Nadal. Reliable as ever.

A bit disappointed that there was no bagel, but still, a double breadstick is quite adequate.

Good work.

The best part about this match was when Nadal was getting up from changover and accidentally knocked over his precious water bottles with his racquet. I'm surprised someone hasn't made a gif of this already. It was ROFLCOPTER WORTHY.

Some of those running forehand passes remind us what a miracle Rafael Nadal is.

Also a beautiful person, a beautiful person! That's why everybody rejoices when he wins, even against sub-par opponents, like today.

Tennis is lucky to have this man. :worship:

Actually, you can't deny that it makes two years in a row, he's playing very good tennis in Valencia and beating here very good players.

Lot of very successful persons has OCD.And probably even more who are not so succesful. Nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes I wonder if I have it. I often have to suddenly return home, because I have strong feeling that I left door wide open. Of course it was locked.Christmas time is horror because I´m convinced that I left candles burning and whole house burned down when I was shopping .I cant stand if someone left toothpaste tube without cap.Sometimes I count steps on stairs and so on...And I also cant stand if beer bottles are lying and rolling on floor,it almost physically hurts me to watch it. If they have to be there, they have to be in standing position !

Pathetic that Nadal always gets easy spaniards in R3... Compare the first two rounds of the Top 3 (+ Murray) and you'll see who has the cakewalk draw.

Nadal R2 - Mayer
Nadal R3 - Granollers

Fed R2 - Berlocq
Fed R3 - Ferrero

Murray R2 - Nalbandian
Murray R3 - Gasquet

Djok R2 - Tomic
Djok R3 - Monaco

On a difficulty scale of 1-10, Murray's was an 8, Djoker's a 7, Fed's a 5, and Nadal's a 2.

Marcel is no match for Rafa in any surface, much less on clay so this result was NID :)

Rafa was very solid but he's still taking TOO long in matches, this was like one and a half hours for a 1 & 1 drubbing.

To be fair both Nadal and Federer got something like a 3 and Murray got a 9, Djokovic a 6.

If we cound QFs Federer got a 2 and Nadal got a 5 overall, Djokovic got a 7 (if Delpo wins).

Federer havent got such an easy draw in ages.

7, 8, 4. But unlike Fed getting Seppi in the QF (if he gets through) - which was a total shock - Nadal repeatedly gets easy opponents in the first two rounds. I mean look at his matchplay in Masters events so far this year:

Indian Wells: R2 - L. Mayer, R3 - Granollers
Miami: R2 - Giraldo, R3 - Stepanek
Monte-Carlo: R2 - Nieminen, R3 - Kukushkin
Madrid: R2 - Davydenko, R3 - Verdasco
Rome: R2 - F. Mayer, R3 - Granollers

Cake-walks (except maybe Verdasco, which was the one time he went out).

And here was I, thinking MTF complained Nadal always missed Piggy roaster in the draws.

It's the first two rounds! They're supposed to be easy, and Mayer was just as big a shock as Seppi. Raonic in R2, would that be tough? And what if Seppi lost, Stanislas 'Ben Dover' Wawrinka as a QF? Really?

We're not talking about possible draws - we're talking about the actual draws. Fact is, Fed's had Raonic twice in the early rounds of Masters so far this year (and he didn't even play MC), as well as Roddick. Djokovic has had Dolgopolov, Wawrinka, and Monaco. And Murray, who didn't play Madrid, has had Raonic, Nalbandian, and Gasquet.

Nadal's had by far the easiest time of it.

Much of that is the time Nadal takes between service points.

Davydenko is a bad opponent for him

Nadal drew Raonic R2 here, same as Federer in Madrid

Federer had another easy draw in Miami, he just bungled it to Roddick

And Federer skipped Monte Carlo

So comparing the tournaments they both played in, Nadal had easy draws in IW and Miami, Federer had easy ones in Miami and Rome

Again, you're comparing actual draws with draws that didn't come about. Nadal didn't get Raonic, he got Mayer. And Davydenko is frankly not what he used to be (if we're factoring in how well opponents used to play, then I could say Ferrero is equally difficult an opponent because he won the FO)...

And how many times do they lose against them? If they would, I understand why you would complain. But that's not the case, they always beat them, so what's the problem? It may help them even more to settle in a competitve groove than breadsticking mugs and then get stopped by the first decent player.

Umm... what? Federer lost to Roddick, and was in deep water twice against Raonic. Murray almost lost to Nalbandian, and went out to Gasquet. Djokovic was tested greatly by Dolgopolov and Monaco. But most importantly of all, the one time Nadal did get a somewhat difficult early round match (Madrid R3, vs. Verdasco), he went out.

Quite interesting, don't you think? ;)

They are not difficult draws

Are you claiming that when Rafa draws Nando and Federer draws Andy, it's a tougher draw than say, Davydenko or Mayer (both had a winning h2h with Rafa)? Playing three sets doesn't automatically mean they were close to losing

Why are you including Murray, he'll lose to anyone

Nadal taking out the trash, one mug at a time. Mugnollers should actually develop a tennis game, such display is embarrassing and a waste of clay goat's time. Nadal's practice sessions are more intense than cleaning out challenger journeymen such as these. I hope he's not too rusty for Berdshit :o

No need to worry. Berdych will outplay Nadal and choke away the big points, as usual.
