Not the best performance from Nole. Too many errors. He looked annoyed most of the time.

It's ok, Pico. You're still pretty.

Good tournament for Monaco anyway, after Monte Carlo's fall could be worse in Rome. I believe he's going to reach the Top 10 at one stage of this season but his chances to play in London in November are slim.

I start to think if nole keeps playing in this way , that the 2011 season was a great season and nothing more.........

I mean if monaco hurts nole in clay , nadal will destroy him again like in montecarlo!!!!

I hope for the good of tennis and competition that nole recover a similar level than in 2011 because if not , we will fall in fedal again.....and with a federer near 31 years old and a young nadal with 26 years old.

with nole we have a more equal competition both guys are youngs and play good matches.

but if nole 2011 was only a great season , the future of tennis will be once more time a fedal tirany.

Even in 2011 he wasn't cruising through all his matches but he got the job done.

Yes and this is exactly what he was doing throughout the whole of last year when he swept through the first 3/4 of the season.

Anyone remember him at Madrid down a break against both Pics and Belluci?

Anyone remember Murray serving for the match at Rome?

He never really bagelled every opponent.

Of course the haters will try to spur anything up.

Congrats to Novak, won despite not playing well, that's what distinguishes great players.

Hope Del Potro beats Tsonga later to set up a great quarterfinal clash.

As for Monaco, very good performance. Glad the injury didn't affect his form and confidence much, look forward to see him at Roland Garros.

I think that the winner-error ratio is expected as both are great defenders and the windy conditions. Pico should push at the French Open and win his first grass match at Wimbledon. I think it will be difficult for Nole to repeat last year or for any player it was one of the best season for any layer in Tennis. And yes Djokovic is not really playing great tennis this year but his winning so props to him. I think Monaco is in the group of Ferrer, Berdych, Murray as dark horse on clay and the French, not really sure about Murray though. But Berdych, Monaco, and Ferrer needs to keep their head together to cause the upsets. Still consider Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer as the leading group.

If by dark horse you mean finalist at the FO then yeah. But just Berdych and Murray. Winner? Nah.

I guess not.

I didn't watch the first set. Nole was quite erratic with both FH and BH, it was very windy and we was not dealing well with the conditions. Pico played very well, hitting great FHs and a lot of winners. Nole stepped up a bit, and I suppose Pico was a bit overwhelmed and there you go, Nole wins in 3 sets.

Overall a good match from Pico and a bad one from Nole.

saw a bit of this match. djoko prevails against tough conditions and a really good opponent. not that surprising given that monaco can be dangerous on the surface. nole was pushing it most of the time (that I saw). plus, with a so so form, it was bound for him to grind a win sooner rather than later, and who better than against a player who he matches up nicely with. i think he'll be better level next match despite (on paper) more difficult opponent.

Pico played very good in the first set(that's the best set he played this year,he was very aggressive and was hitting lots of winners while Nole were spraying UEs all over the place).Than he disappeared in the second. In the third Nole's mental strength was deciding thing. All in all not very convincing performance by Nole.I hope he'll improve his game in the next round.

It was the damn bloody wind added to Pico's excellent play (he's a claycourt player after all and in very good form lately). Nole always goes for the lines and with this wind his risk game forces him to make tons of errors. Funny how some ignorant posters in GM think he's not an attacking player. Going for the lines in a constant basis is being ofensive: but he hardly misses so it seems easy to do.
