Good from Tomas after falling behind an early break. Hit a great lob to break for 4 all in the first set and from there was pretty much in control, winning eight straight games. Kubot double faulted to lose the first set. He served horribly, and had no answers from the baseline, Tomas likes a target and made it tough for the Pole at the net with some good passing shots, a lot of errors both at the net and from the back of the court. Tomas was all over Kubot's serve and served well himself.

All in all, solid performance for Tomas.

Happy birthday Lukasz. Nice birthday cake on court :)

How is it that a S&V like Kubot likes clay so much and has had the most success on it, I thought it was supposed to be their worst surface.

Mongoose starts threads before matches end so he can beat me to start threads, since he knows he can't do it in a normal situation. What a loser, you contribute nothing on this forum at all, and no-one wants you to start any of the threads

Tomas was absolutely awful in the first few games, barely hit a ball in court.

Looks like he was good after that though. :)

He can't defend or attack well on hard, strangely enough. Can't move to the ball enough to do either.

Happy birthday Łukasz!!

Not too much to say about this match. Kubot started good meanwhile Berdych was really awful. In total match he was fine and Kubot collapsed after losing his service game at *4-3. Berdych was too strong for him.

His fav counts are fast clay and slow hard. :p

Berdych so uneven but when he finds his groove he's an unstoppable force. Now to find a way to conserve that for 2 full sets. Then worry about conserving it for 3 full sets in RG :)

Are you the only poster allowed to start threads then? Sounds like you're taking this just a tad too seriously...

He also looks to be a decent threat on grass, which he should be.

I felt for him after DFing on SP.

Anyone know why he skipped Madrid?

He's not a pure S&V player. He likes clay because it gives him more time to execute his shots.

Would this also go for Duckworth?

He was injured. He wrote on his official webside but there was nothing concrete on his injury. I assume it was his knees because he used binding.

Are you the only poster allowed to start threads then? Sounds like you're taking this just a tad too seriously...No, it's how he's decided to try to one up me by violating MTF rules. I find it comical, really, because it's like, really, is it that important to you? For him, I guess it is, since he doesn't do anything else and knows nothing about tennis.

I definitely should start all the threads but since others are so pathetically desperate to do it, I can't stop them.

Would this also go for Duckworth?Potentially so, yes. Duckworth and Kubot are different players, stylistically.

Would you call Duck a more pure S&V then?

Good for the game.

Bad start, but then great tennis from Berydch. Keep up the great form, Tomas, and take Almagro out tomorrow :D

Berdych :yeah:. Hope he goes deep here.

No, Kubot is more of an S&V player than Duckworth. Duckworth will hit a backhand early and rush the net a lot, or use a dropshot and follow it into the net. Kubot uses the net more as a weapon in terms of just straight coming into the net.

No. The difference is that 95% of my posts are match result threads, unlike the OP. The OP even sent me a bad rep because he was mad about me starting threads and threatened me about it.

Kubot plays such horrible volleys I've always wondered how can he be considered a S&V player. I won't comment on his baseline game as it would be like shooting on the red cross.
