5 years since the last one!

Still owns more clay titles than Federer though, 13 vs 10. Has the most for the Federer generation.

I hope Juanqui will be able to give Feds a decent match. :)

Roger is the one between these two who has aged the best. Fed in 2.

Would love to see Juanqui make it competitive.

Realistically, though, it should be Roger in 2

Hope Roger in 2, but Ferrero will be a tough customer and they havent played each other in such a long time. Was it wimbledon 07 the last time these two played? I remember it was a tough win for Roger there, 4 sets IIRC.

But Roger in Rome since that 2006 final has failed to impress. His results have been 3R, QF, SF, 2R, 3R in the last five years, with losses to Volandri, Stepanek, Gulbis and Gasquet  So you never know, could be a tough match

Federer comfortably in 2.

Still can't believe Ferrero was a world number 1 - either he has declined massively, or the game has evolved massively. Probably both.

Wow that is awful. I knew Roger was weak in Rome but I'd expect to find that record for someone more like Cilic rather than Roger...That makes me lower my expectations from Fed in this tourney. Maybe no SF, but QF is still possible.

Federer in 3, hope Ferrero can play some vintage clay tennis here

Federer is not looking that convincing. Ferrero can definitely take a set, & even score the upset if Fed is as shit as he normally is in Rome.

JCF in 2.

Juanqui can definitely win if Routinerer appears, Roger has to make an effort if he wants to win this.

Roger in 2, like 7-5 6-4, but if Roger has a mental walkabout, I could see Juanqui winning a set / even the match.

JCF doesn't stand a chance If Federer takes this serious.
Their last encounters were beatdowns and I don't see anything different happening this time.

We're talking about the World No. 1, holder of 13 Clay titles, and a Roland Garro champion here.

What makes you think Roger even has a chance here?

A resumption of their 2003 clash in which Juan Carlos retired due to injury. He's now fully recovered from that injury therefore I expect a very competitive match :yeah: . Don't forget 13 > 10 and coupled with Roger's awful record in Rome you have a recipe for a great clash of the golden oldies. Juan knows the boost he would get from such a win heading into RG and I expect Roger to be a little sore still. This has the Miami Roddick match feel to it. Too bad Ferrero will probably lose to his next opponent :o

JFC has no chance.Fed will win each and every tournament he enters. So,it's time for Olderer to shine in Rome.

a short reminder of their previous clash in rome. it contains an outburst of roger after a late call.

Roger was hitting the ball so cleanly those days...it was the year he played his first rome final...

Olderer in easy 2 sets, sadly.

Something like 6-3 6-2 :(

Thanks for posting. The two of them were so young back then... and Rog is hilarious in his :stupid: tantrum throwing,!
Makes it even better to see both of them still hitting 'em balls today! :worship:

I'd usually support JCF here but Federer needs those points

Should be a good one, but Federer should take this. Interestingly, Ferrero's success on Federer in the past have only been on hardcourts. He has never taken a set off Federer on clay. Ferrero certainly has the ability to pull off an upset, but Federer should be too good mentally. Hopefully if Federer wins, this could add to Federer's confidence for the red dirt because Ferrero certainly one of the all time greats on the surface, especially for his generation.

People forget just how good JCF really was when he was younger. Injuries totally devastated his career, just like a lot of the great talents from Federer's generation (and they really were great talents, if you compare the previous 4 or 5 years worth of young players who mostly have been unimpressive).
