Tomic can hardly wait to get off this pottery junk. The real question is can he beat Djokovic if they play at Wimbledon in a couple months.

Tomic's forehand is laughable. He'll never reach the top of the game if that stroke doesn't change...he faces the same fate as Andy Mugray.

I actually think that Novak was hitting the ball pretty nicely in Madrid but was having a lot of problems with the movement and the court being too slippery. Everything going back to normal now, a nice match to start the title defence :) still playing some points passively for my liking but have a feeling he'll be better with each round :)
Btw, will Novak ever learn to smash properly? :o

It's really a shame Bernie is a poor mover, because if he had natural athletic ability, he'd be a really major threat for grand slams on grass and at the USO in the future.

Nole played a nice match overall, didn't have to extend himself too much, but was solid in all departments.

Agreed. But I think he'll win plenty of Wimby and hardcourt slams anyway as his game develops and he improves his serve. But it's true, if he was a more natural athlete he would be impossible to hit through and almost unbeatable.

Yes, he has shot skill, but he doesn't have tactics skill, the guy to me right now looks like a better version of Dimi, has tools, but not the toolbox, we have seen him tank mentally many times, totally tanked vs. Fed at the AO, he needs an attitude adjustment, doesn't have the winning mentality yet.

I definitely think he'll win a few Wimbledon's, but to get some hardcourt majors, the serve and movement need to improve. He's got great natural slice on his serve and it skids, but he needs to get more pace with it. He's still growing into his body, his lower body needs to be stronger, but all of this will come with more physical maturation. If he can move at a Del Potro level in the future, he's going to be scary good.

Bernard has good footwork when forced to move but very substandard footwork when the ball is hit in the middle of the court or if he has to actually shuffle his feet a bit to get into position. He has slow reactions. But all of this will get better as he matures physically.

I agree about his mentality not being the best. I'm not too sure I agree or disagree about the tactics, though. He's a smart guy on court, great tennis instincts, and he knows how to play specific opponents and what it will take to win the match.

Tomic has the goods . The puzzler is his reluctance to use his power to finish off points. This guy should in theory have Berdych like power and coupled with his versatility and guile would make him a huge pick for a dominant future number 1.Oh...he'd have to improve his movement as well. Milos has the serve and forehand to become his main rival. Grisha's career's in the doldrums. Harrison is a fighter but not a natural talent. Not a lot of other contenders out there unless you think Nole and Rafa will still be ranked in the top 2 five years from now

Entertaining contest with some awesome movement & shotmaking from Djoker, who is looking back to his best. Tomic played some amazing points but on clay especially his forehand is too flat & inconsistent and his sliding needs to get better - his main weakness is hitting shots when stretched out wide. But Djoker had to work & my impression is he does not enjoy playing Tomic.

Wasn't trolling, up until Soderling I was serious, the rest was meant a joke. I just think he has clear gameplan against Fed of which he Knows it will give him the victory if he executes it well.. Against Those 'ballbashers' though he knows, they can hit trough him if they have a good day and then he will have a hard time, since he lacks a clear plan B.

Actually I think particularly in Nadal's case, they do like it. Partly because it is a struggle, and gives satisfaction if they do win, rather than a lower ranked player where they go in feeling a loss is a disaster and with no outcome that can be celebrated.

So they can actually enjoy it. But of course they can still fear it as well.
