seems like donald actually put up a good fight in the second set

and then when he was serving to force a tiebreaker he got broken at love in the blink of an eye:rolleyes:

4-0 H2H for gillou now

Young was horrible in the first set. Gilles was horrible for the first 8 games of the second set and then woke up just in time to win the last four games of the match. There's not too much to take from this match.

At least Donald Young is competitive vs. a top 15 player. Mentally still has a ways to go. You could see in his eyes that 5-4 game that he would lose.

Omg that was one of the lowest quality matches on the ATP this year. Simon was pretty awful, yet Young was way worse. Young must have missed about 20 relatively easy shots. Horrid match from both.

Donald should hang up his racquet... I mean seriously, six 1st round exits in a row?

Don probably has the worst serve in the top 100. Because at least Cipolla gets his in at 80% most of the time. Donald not only does not get his serve in at a high enough percentage for how weak it is, but it lacks direction, his second set is dreadful and he's vulnerable to double faulting. It's sad to see his game completely unraveling, he's actually worse now than he was before he had the big run last season to get into the top 50. You look at him now and his rally shots are pathetically poor and although he can hit some good shots, there is absolutely zero consistently or real gameplan.

Gilles really stepped off the gas pedal in the second set. This match doesn't mean much from his POV outside of the fact he won it.

Never a bad day when a weaponless mug like Young loses. Of course he lost to a fellow pusher, but Simug will leave the tournament soon enough.
