Who will hold the record for most Masters titles at the end of 2012?

Rome - Red clay.
Toronto - HC.
Cincinnati - HC.
Shanghai - HC.
Paris - HC.

Both Roger and Rafa are now standing on 20 titles. Who will have more?

Due to the fast surface of most of the remaining tournies, I think Federer might win one title more than Nadal after all.

Nadal will sweep all the remaining ones, except Paris where he will tank to Dimitrov in the final, so the answer is Nadal.

Nadal can hardly win anything else than Rome (a small chanse in Toronto maybe).

Federer could win all except Rome. Odds are in favour of Fed, but Nadal almost got Rome in the bag while Fed will have to fight hard to get any of the other 4.

I expect Fed to not play Montreal (as it is the week after Olympics) and possibly Paris this year. Shanghai is a doubt too, and right now so is Rome (which I dont expect him to win anyway).
So realistically, I can see Roger winning only Cincinnati maybe. The surface suits him great anyway :)

As for Nadal, he is the favourite for Rome, he has had a fair bit of success in Montreal too in the past. However, given how he has performed at the Masters outside clay (ie: he has been very beatable at the final stages) in the last 2 years, its likely he too win realistically sit on 21 too.

But by the time both end their career, Nadal should have this record. He will be sitting on like 12 MCs by then for sure

nadal has no right to be allowing an "old man" getting more master shelds than him in 2012

Lendl's grand prix/super9 record was 22, am I right or wrong?

Both will ofcourse pass him, maybe Djokovic aswell.

Federer. Nadal just can't seem to win tournaments off clay anymore (let alone Masters), and Federer obviously has the advantage at Cincinnati, Shanghai, etc. Couple that with Roger's current run of form... and yeah, definitely Federer. :)

Masters are irrelevant. 3 of them is on Clay. The rest on slow HCs. Only 1 is on super fast surface. No grass masters. Nadal will hold the most titles eventually.

Tied, Federer may have more tournaments where he has a shot, but Nadal has a bigger chance with the Rome one.

Both will end at 21, Rafa taking Rome, Fed probably Cinci. Murray, Djokovic will take the others, maybe a shock winner in Paris.

Federer, but in the long term this is Nadal's record anyway. Djokovic might have a chance as well.

some people say that, but I like Lendl but in that time, these tournaments were not mandatory, and if you look at the fields you can't say that these 22 ones were equivalent to 22 mandatory Masters 1000 or Monte-Carlo today (one day I made a personal estimation of the best 9 tournaments outside of slams per year and I rather estimated that Lendl would be rather the same level as Agassi at 17 in terms of "Masters 1000" tournaments)

That's why Nadal's and Fed's record is fully legit to me.

Perhaps if grass had a MS event, Federer would have several more  silly thing to compare. Since the GS and WTF titles are incomparable right now, go to the next best thing I guess.
