It will be interesting either way. Nadal should win in straights, however, Mayer should have confidence from winning their only previous match and Mayer is arguably best on clay, a surface where he has reached 4 finals and won his only title on.

There's NOTHING Mayer can do to hurt Rafa on clay.

What? He has a strong first serve, can inject pace out of nowhere really well, good variety especially with the slice, has an interesting and effective backhand and is a rather good mover especially on clay.

Nadal will destroy Mayer.

I think Rafa will be extra motivated because of what happened at Madrid. All I know is I wouldn't wanna be in Mayer's shoes.

Why not? Is Nadal beating him up?? This is tennis not boxing.

His serve isn't so effective on clay.

And the other things you mentioned, I don't see them (on clay). To be honest I didn't watch him that match on clay lately (because he didn't play that much), but in Davis Cup against Argentina he was awful.

He can be a threat con fast surfaces (in fact he defeated Nadal last year in Shangai).

If Nadal won every time he was extra motived he would remain undefeated since 2004.

Sadly this is on clay so Rafa will take it in straights. I hope we'll see some funky stuff though.

A fluke, Nadal even lost to Meltzer in Shanghai the year before. Probably he was tired from Usopen final and Tokyo final.

He sure looked tired in those highlights. Tired from seeing too many dropshots and volley winners that is.

Yeah, it was a fun match. Florian Mayer defending with forehand slices from 5 meters behind the baseline and Nadal not beeing able to finish points, then Mayer mixing it up with some serve and volley and excellent jumping backhands on Nadal's topspin. Weird stuff happened in that match.

Nadal will annihilate this underpowered junkballer. Mugyer has no game on clay and Nadal will school him without effort.

6-1 6-2, Nadal gifting a couple of games to german mug out of pity, for the clay God is merciful.

do you claim everything based purely on statistics and not actually watching matches? Mayer can play his best on hard court just as he can on clay. actually I would say his best matches ever have been on hard court despite your frequent quotes about his mickey mouse clay wins.

Nadal has this match, no problem. by your logic because Ferrer has tons of clay court title wins he would always be a threat to Nadal. funko flo beat Nadal last on a totally different court, a court in which his game is actually at times much more effective than on the clay

He said Nadal should win in straights. I'm not sure why you use the Ferrer example because he actually has played Nadal close on clay several times including this year in Barcelona, and let's face it the only predictably genuine threat to Nadal on clay is Djokovic anyway.
