Federer in 2

Fed in 2.

Mark Lenders

Federer obviously the favorite here, but Berdych has been playing stunning tennis all week and hasn't even dropped a set, beating even Del Potro, who's traditionally a horrible match-up for him. His serve has been really good.

Can he go one further and take his second Masters title? If he can play his best tennis, he surely can. He has had some success vs Federer lately and this surface really suits him.

Federer will be extremely motivated though, as a win will see him become # 2 in the world, leaping Nadal. He's favored to win, but an on-fire Berdych can take anyone, as Federer himself has found out in a few big occasions in the past.

Your thoughts?

Berdych might show some exceptional ball bashing all around the court and go for the lines constantly. Unfortunately though don't think that would be enough to beat Federer on this surface.

Yup. Berdych is one of the few guys who can (in recent matches) get a great read on Federer's serve. And this surface really suits his brand of tennis.

If the same Berdych who showed up all weeks appears tomorrow, this should be a great final.

As with other big hitters, Berdych always has a chance to beat whoever he is playing, however, I think Federer is too strong on serve, and it is allowing him to go for his shots on his opponent's service games. Berdych has played a very solid week of tennis, however, I think Federer will be able to handle the conditions to favor him and hurt Berdych. He is playing with a lot of confidence, like in Paris the last time they met unlike in Cincinnati.

Either way, Federer has held serve arguably better than everyone this week, and you have to say that he will be in more of Berdych's service games than the other way around.

I hope Fed takes the title but I dont like this matchup, it has become an uncomfortable one since 2009 for Fed.
I am sitting on the fence with this one, on his day Berdych can beat anyone. However, if Fed plays close to his own best, he wont let Berdych play his game and that should win it for Rog.
I hate Fed losing to one of my least favourite guys on tour (if only JMDP had won today, at least I would have been okay with either result. Now you dont have a choice, win it Fed!)

Many selling Mr.Berd short here. This surface is all about who takes command. I think Berdych will come out firing and Federer can't play his usual tactic he does vs big hitters.

Federer could find himself in a gun battle where he brings a rifle but Berdych brings a cannon. Now Fed got very good aim and the Berd cannon can easily misfire but it's could end up very close.

Seeing that Federer struggled with Raonic I don't see why he wouldn't struggle with an in-form Berdych. It's gonna be an all out war where mental clutchness to save BPs/win TBs will decide as I think all sets will be close.

Federer in 3. (but I hope for Berdych in 3)

Actually i am surprised how many votes Roger has comparing to Tomas... this final is open, Berdych destroyed Monfils, Verdasco and beat in straight sets guy who was 22-0 or something on clay this year by sets won... and Roger´s record from last meetings with Berdych isn´t nothing extra. I think this match is pretty open, maybe Roger will be under bigger pressure, No.2 in stake - needed points to regain No.1 again, Tomas will be underdog who is playing great so i realla can see him win this.

Yeah but he shouldn't be messing around considering what happened in 2010 when so many idiotic choices let his #1 ranking slip. If he'd played ONE match in Monte Carlo, if he'd beaten Montanes in Estoril, making SF at RG was enough to secure the record over Sampras and he fucks that up. Probably two tight sets to Fed, with one a tiebreaker.

Everyone is remembering Cincy 2011 and forgetting Paris 2011.
Berdych's draw was also pretty easy. Kev Anderson can't move on clay. Monfils just came back off injury break. Verdasco had NOTHING in the tank, emotionally, after beating Rafa (and his form against Rafa was mediocre).
Pony was the only tough opponent, and Berdych barely scraped through two close tie-breakers; both players won the same amount of points.

Fed has been serving well all week. Berdych will get some big hits in on a few 2nd serves, but otherwise I think Fed's serving too well to get broken much/at all.
Berdych has also been serving well, but if Fed gets returns in play (good practice against Raonic), he will be able to outmanoeuvre and wrong foot the Czech.

Or Berdych red lines it and blows Fed away

No if he loses tommorow, reaches the SF of Rome and Rafa wins Rome Rafa would still be number 2
If he wins it and reaches the SF of Rome and Rafa wins Rome, Rafa would be number 2 for the French Open with a lead of 45 points
If he wins tommorow and reaches final of Rome he is number 2
If he loses tommorow, he reaches the SF of Rome and Rafa doesn't win Rome he still would be number 2
Rankings if he wins tommorow
Novak: 11200
Rafa: 9105
Roger: 9160
Rankings if he loses tommorow
Novak 11200
Rafa: 9105
Roger: 8760

People are really underrating Berdych here, he definitely has a great shot of winning this title.

The point is, if Roger serves as well as he did against Pics and Tipsy then Berdych will probably lose but it also depends on the form the Czech plays this match, if he starts hitting the lines then it would be really hard for Roger to win the final.

To me it is 60% Roger 40% Berdych and it's not closer because Roger still has lots of variety to trouble him (dropshots for example)

i think both players will try to take the initiative. the one who does so with more consistency will win.

if federer is confident and precise, he should get the win regardless of how berdych plays. if not, he'll get passive and use the slice more often (safe shot). that's when berdych can take the initiative and go for the win.

That may be true but Berdych has won 3 of the last 5. Berdych has stopped Fed at the Olympics, at Wimbledon and now would be quite funny if he stops him getting to no.2 and therefore closer to no.1. Berdych & Soderling have been just as annoying as Nadal for Fed in some ways - doesn't matter how many matches you lose, it's which ones you lose.

Fed fans shouldn't be so arrogant in a year in which he's lost to Isner & Roddick - nothing's a given in sport.

Unfortunately Federer cannot win this.

Has nothing to do will how well Federer plays - the tennis Gods simply will not allow Nadal to be seeded 3rd in the French Open and go out to Djokovic in the semifinals.

Federer will need to beat Djokovic in the semifinals and bend over to Rafa in the finals of the French Open as usual.

Maybe Mercederer. Chocoderer. Credit suiderer.

On this surface Smurferer would be appropriate.

I think Rogi hates that Tomas can completely blow him away his awesome power when his game is on. It makes him look slow and probably highlights the fact that he's a half a step slower post 30  I hope Roger can put up a fight today and not cave in like he did at Wimbledon and Cincy :o

Fed must surprise Berdych with plenty of his 'new' killer dropshots, the key to winning today. Fed lifts up trophy, 6-4, 6-4.

Berdshit already done his duty: deny Olderer a chance to win Olympic gold in 2004. Wimbledon 2010 was just gravy. "I was injured", "He made lucky shots" :superlol: I love watching this sore loser after a particularly humiliating defeat.

Federer is probably the worst sore loser ever.
