Two huge forehands going head to head on the fast blue clay - should be a good match.

Both are enjoying this blue clay, i think Soderling would be great here too. I think this will be close match, 3setter, either of them will loose in F to Federer either way:D

This will be nothing like Rotterdam. In that match Del Potro served near his best and Berdych served near his worst, doubt that'll happen tomorrow.

May the best player win. Could be either of them. :)

birdbrain has been playing well but consistency will be the deciding factor here and i'm afraid the goat is one step ahead of him on that point.

Match-up is hugely favorable to Del Potro, who is the clear favorite here.

If Berdych has his usual low first serve %, it will be a routine 2 set victory for Del Potro like in Rotterdam.

If Berdych serves well though, we'll be in for a great match. Tomas has been hitting the ball very well this week. The keys for Berdych are the first strikes: serve and return. He needs to win points/take control of the rallies soon in order to compete/win the match.

Neutral rallies will play right into Delpo's hands, as he's more powerful and consistent than Tomas. Taking control/winning the point with his first strike should definitely be Tomas's strategy.

So, Delpo favorite, but Tomas can win if he serves and returns well. Hope the winner of this one will take the final against Djokovic (or Federer).

I'm terrified of this match, but I'm really really hoping that Berdych brings his best serving game against Delpo. It was his first time on Manolo Santana awhile ago and it seemed like he was able to adjust rather well to the surface relatively quickly. I see a 3 setter going Berdych's way if he serves like he's been serving all tournament.

Then again, I said this at Rotterdam too and Berdych fell apart. :haha:

Turn that H2H around, Tomas!:wavey:

This is a toughy... However, I predicted Delpo in my draw challenge, and I'll stick with him. Go Juan Martin!

I think Del Potro easily. Serves better, moves better. All that really matters in this match-up.

Umm... what? Fed's in great form and he's won 18 of his last 19 matches. He's beaten Del Potro four times already this year (last one was an absolute thrashing) and he's beaten Berdych in all of their previous clay court meetings. More importantly, the #2 ranking is up for grabs and his motivation will be stronger than ever.

I hope they will finally play a tight match, 4 previous ones were pathetically lopsided taking into account two tall guys

Birdman is in form (good, cuz it means no excuses later on) but I'm still confident Delpo will get the job done.

Time for the Argie to begin the inevitable final assault of the top tier by delivering a summer eve one-two punch (Estoril-Madrid)

This match is gonna be a good one. Is tight, but can see Del Po just edging it.

Berdych´s game just doesnt fit well to other ballbashers (3-1 delpo, 7-3 robin)...
anyway I expect a better match than Rotterdam´s, even though I think Delpo will prevail in two sets.

two of my fav ballbashers, at least one of our proud citizen will be in M1000 final =)

I think Delpo is a slight favorite due to matchup issues. I predict Delpo to play slightly more defensive than normal and try to get longer rallies. Berdych got the same challenge as Soderling. He needs to pace himself and not go for broke too much or he could easily find himself a break down.

On the other hand Delpo should be more tired after his success in Estoril so if it goes to 3 sets who knows. I hope for a close match anyway because there will be some major bombs flying. The balls are already praying for mercy

Fatigue won't be an issue. Yes, Delpo has played 8 matches the past two weeks, but he hasn't dropped a set and has won each and every match very routinely, without needing to spend much energy. Tomas is by far the toughest test for him so far this clay season.

Agree about the premise of the first paragraph though. Tomas needs to do damage with his first strike (serve and return) and take control of rallies with it. Long neutral rallies will play into Delpo's hands as his strokes are more powerful and consistent.

The key for Tomas is to keep his first serve % high and return well. If he does that, this match will surely be nothing like their last one in Rotterdam.

Delpo in 2 or Berd in 3 :) The decider should be an advantage for Berdych. Hes in better physical condition. Delpo looked fatigued at the times

My vCash will be on Berdych to win this.
Hope the person taking care of the vCash bet will be able to close it in time this time. There have been a few 'accidents' with that already this week. ;)

He didn't lose a set in the whole clay season.

He is average because playing at his 60/65% is enough for him to beat most of the players.

But Berdych has previously demonstrated the enviable capacity to stop playing great on the turn of a dime. Hope you're right, in any case. Straights would be nice.

Sounds a good match on paper but of the top of my head I don't recall these guys playing any close matches. For one, I think it's a bad match-up generally for Berdych (because Del Potro can deal with power pretty good). For another, whichever guy gets on top can roll quite quickly. Today though, both seem to be in really good form. Regardless of who's been playing bad opponents etc... it isnt easy to spank Monfils and Verdasco (clowns or no clowns) with the ease Berdych has, or to win so many consecutive sets as JMDP has. I still see Del Potro as favourite here, but I hope they go three for once.
