Hilarious match, mass timewasting in between points. Nadal up a double break in the 3rd set 5-2 and loses to Verdasco of all people.

Too much comedy on the goat track, well from the last 2 sets as Verdasco played good tennis in the 1st set.

Nadal was in finals here every season since it is on clay - i am sure commercially NAdal out will be big blow for Madrid - Tiriacīs blue dream is over with NAdal going to down so early i think.

Finally!
After 13 losses to Nadal finally Verdasco won a match against him.
In Barcelona, he really hasn't got any chance.

It's kind of a revenge for the loss of Ferrer in Barcelona because there Ferrer played better and still lost.

Today, it was not the best match, but Verdasco played with more heart, the better attacking shots all over the match. 1st set was very good, third set after being 2-5 down (with 2 breaks!!) was really good, convincing.
On first matchpoint, Nadal was hitting an ace. But the 2nd matchpoint Verdasco could use.

Good win.
It's kind of fair that Nadal now loses a match on clay early in a tournament because he had luck against Wawrinka, Simon (in Monte Carlo) and especially against Ferrer (in Barcelona.)

Nadal was not very good in this match, you could really see that he doesn't like the blue clay which is understandable.

delpiero7
05-10-2012, 05:49 PM
This is just too funny. Of ALL the players to come back from 2-5* down in the final set against Rafa.

Blue clay probably won't be back after this. Nadal disposed of in R2, and Nole and Roger both pushed to a 3rd set in R1.

I had to leave after the first set - the match was truly dragging. I have this issue during Nadal/Djokovic and Nadal/del Potro matches but the time wasted here took it to another level.

Great win for Verdasco - can't wait to watch that third set later because I can't figure how Rafa lost five games in a row at the end.

That was odd, like really odd. Fun match in an odd way. Not sure I'll have got my head around that one before the clay season is over.

Rafa needs to get his act together, might not like the courts but there's no way he should be losing to Verdasco here.

Also too much time wasting from both, absolutely 0 reason to be up at 35s average for the match between points.

Nadal's sliding on clay has always been sublime. One of the reasons he's clay GOAT is because he was always best slider on the surface and therefore able to adjust to blue clay better than his less skilled opponents.

regardless of if he meant to or not, he played a horrible match today. up 5-2 losing godddd. i left the TV and what do you know..... You can hate all you want to on Rafa, but im still a SUPA fan of Rafa, Verdasco played amazing today, give him some credit, yes he made alot of dfs in the match and made silly errors. Rafa in the third set choke after being up 5-2 40-15, so Rafa has HIMSELF to blame for the loss and has to give Nando credit for fighting really really really hard. I have always been a fan of Nando for a long time. I have my ups and downs with him so did i with Rafa. I love these two men and always will be. Career changing win for Verdasco. Some choking and bad play from Nadal in that third, but Nando stepped up and took it towards the end, and finished with a winner.

Too damn good.

Now, for Nadal, this is actually a good thing that he lost here. Now he is extra motivated for Rome and RG, and gets a few days rest also.

for me is not good for him because the other players will start to belive more in defeat rafa and because he can lose in few time the nš2 and that is face nole in slam`s semis.....

reery I don`t say that rafa is finished for win slams but he will lose more like happen to roger after wimbledon 2008

I still cannot believe it either. Fantastic!

But the match was so so bad, especially from Nadal. He played as ugly as possible. That FH giving Verdasco a second (and last) match point was the icing on the cake. I think I've rarely seen him hit such a poor forehand.
Verdasco had flashes of brilliance during the 1st set and from 2-5 to 7-5. AO09-sytle.

Now that Nadal has lost in the 3rd round, a Federer win in Madrid will guarantee him #2 on May 14.
I believe he would have 9410 vs Rafa's 9105 once the Rome points drop off on May 14.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Respectfully,

If Federer wins Madrid he will have 9430 to Nadalīs 9105. Nadal could have 9505 maximum points after Rome.

Fed is defending only 90 points in Rome so if he reaches QF or further in Rome, he will be seeded #2 at Roland Garros.

But there are too many ifs to be honest :)

Rafa will recover (I think. I hope). He's still the top gun at Roland Garros. That's all that matters. But that overhead miss was so bad, so out of character, I kind of had a bad feeling after that. *shakes if off*

Wasn't but you didn't mention that you referred to a clay-court match. Besides I'm not sure Nadal had a double break advantage in the 3rd set against Ferrer in Stuttgart, certainly he had a triple match point on serve. Great. :( It's a crappy tournament anyway.
Better rest and prepare for Rome and RG.

I'm not a fan of Verdasco but I almost felt happy after seeing how much it meant for him. Crying after winning a third round match.

What? Your posts are so nonsensical. fast_clay hates Nadal.

only read the first paragraph... too many tears in this thread, hard to tell which ones are valid

oh well, im sure it can be used to quote some other nadaltards with it, i.e GSMnadal.

It seems this thread goes to the MTF history books on many levels :spit: (I'm not a follower of calling Nadal 'pig' but these defeats arouse creative thinking)

Nadal should have skipped Madrid to begin with, but that also works. Got some match practice, now on to win Rome and Roland Garros. Congratulations to Nando, he fought until the end and deserved to win!

2012 will be just like 2008 and the haters will continue to suffer and waste years of their pathetic lives watching in helpless agony Rafa win again and again :wavey:

I thought he cried because he beat the clay Goat? no?

Anyway, not a fan of Nando either, but a lot of respect for him for winning this one after 13 try. However, I'm a bit sad that Rafa lost. I was hoping Berdych to be the one who beat him. Nevermind, Rafa will come back stronger, although he may not come back to Madrid.

Fedtards are beyond pathetic.Only way Fed can win a GS is if he plays an injured and tired opponent.Well he had a lot of pratice in his era.Mug after mug in the finals

yes???

mugs like nadal twice , djokovic , murray...

I remembered gonzalez and baghdathis giving more match in the final against roger than the great nš4 murray:rolleyes: , even a 36 years old agassi is more dangerous than mugray in slams.

but if you want talk about mugs , i remember sampras winning wimbledons without faced a top10 or top30!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or winning final against pioline or moyas.....his main rival agassi had his head in everyplace and not 100% focused in tennis and he was out of tennis like 2 years in the best samprās`s moments.... courier was burn after 1993 and edberg/becker had his peak in the 80s not 90s.

muf after mug defeated sampras to cesar delgado , galo blanco , washington and more

the 90s are very overrated , only was sampras like a big champion and agassi under him a little , now you has 3 big champios

maybe.

but be careful , nadal is not near of his 2008 level......
