Anyone who says draws are not rigged... these two have met FOURTEEN times now. The man above him he has met only ten, and that's Gasquet, a longtime top player and someone who came on the scene at the same time as Nadal. He has met the man ranked below Verdasco, Dolgopolov, three times

samanosuke
05-09-2012, 07:13 PM
nadal' draws are rigged most of the times. nobody could have so much luck all the time, nobody. if you make up the hardest nadal's slam draw from all opponents he has ever met in every round of some slam you'll get one average draw from someone's random slam victory

be realistic he has no chance whatsoever if Nadal cares to win. I am uncertain if Nadal is really focused on winning Madrid with all of his comments about hating the surface and being upset at the ATP, but Fernando does not have the weapons to beat Nadal currently. aside from their games, Fernando's brain refuses to let himself do well against Nadal even if he wanted

why is it so surprising? they are both from Spain, play a lot of the same events. Verdasco is good enough to beat a lot of players so he can get through a draw to face Nadal. there have been many many tournaments the two have not met up it's just you all make a huge deal about it when they do. if the H2H wasn't so slanted you wouldn't be calling 'rigged' to the skies, it just happens that Nadal has dominated this guy. it's not like they are meeting in R1 of every tournament or something.

The Cincinnati match that I had the awful misfortune to be present for. Nadal was desperate to let Fernando win and Fernando's lack of belief was just sad, he was up a break once in each set too. Just horrific.

It is a good thing Rafa does not have this mentality. You gotta bring your A game to every match, even if its Verdasco. Yes, Nadal will win this match in straights, 99.9% likely, but upsets are always possible in sports.

I can see that as well. I picked 5-7 games, which allows for that possibility in a set before getting bagelled in the second.

Hmm when I think of these two players, it brings back a distant memory of when Uncle Toni sympathized Verdasco and even offered him a hand and support to train along side with Rafa at their academy in Mallorca many years back. Verdasco refused and said he's fine. Wonder if things would have looked differently in their h2hs? Still doubt it...Nadal would probably come out on top.

Exactly- Nadal's 13-0 up but as much as people make fun of Verdasco he's not a terrible player - he's top 20 easily and can play top 10 at times. The fact that the H2H is SO lopsided makes me wary because by the law of averages Nadal has to lose at some point.... Just hope it's not tomorrow. Then again people gave Roddick no chance vs Fed in Miami - you never know what will happen.

Roddick had beaten Fed in Miami a couple of years before and therefore but for his slow recovery from injury, there was no reason to give him zero chance of winning against a clearly exhausted Federer. Nando on the other hand is completely useless against Rafa. Apart from THAT AO clash a couple of years back he's been bending over like there's no tomorrow :worship:

Fiasco didn't bend down in AO 2009 and Cinci last year. Mugwrinka is just an untter clown who will always give up a service break at 4-5, 5-6 etc. He should be fined for lack of effort.

Nando has not played top 20-level tennis since like, US Open 2010. It took a while for his ranking to catch up but he's generally been horrid since then. 2011 San Jose final was when the bottom dropped out :p.
