Immaculate from Cilic. Isner played a good match but was let down by the double faults in the end. Cilic is a dangerous opponent to anyone in 2012 if he continues to believe in himself.

What a hilarious result :haha: . Isner was awful, slipping left and right but most of the time to win a breaker against Cilic you just have to be able to hold a racket so credits to Cilic

Cilic served at 48% definitely needs to improve that, but everything else was solid.

Isner really had no clue with the movement on the smurf turf.

Kind of expected. Isner has no rhytm on clay, Cilic does. Both equal clay courters, ergo Cilic wins close.

But very good win nevertheless, didn't break under pressure in the TBS, that's new.

Cilic's level depends a lot on confidence then this is a great great win for him :yeah:

Especially defeating the tie-break king (after Fed) in two tie-breaks :clap2:

I knew Cilic was a danger for Isner : he's a very good returner and he showed that against Isner already in AO 2011, and he showed good confidence last week.

Another Del Po-Cilic or another Cilic-Youzhny in perspective : both start being classics

Expected, i am saying all the time Isner on clay is overrated, Cilic came here confident from Munich, won fist match comfortably in straight sets against home clay-courter. I really was thinking Cilic is favorite here, but by odds clearly Isner was... even Delpo can have troubles in next round against Cilic i think.

Hell yes Marin :rocker2:
As I said numerous times, he is not a TB mug as people think, just proved it today. 2-0 H2H against John, 3-1 in TBs against the 'Tiebreak king'
Another big win, and I don't expect much against Del Potro but for Marin to try his best. Ajmo! :armed:

Why is Cilic so disliked? He has an attractive game - I've always enjoyed seeing him play (albeit haven't seen much of him in last year or so).

Lack of balls/mental weakness.

Hasn't really progressed since AO 2010.

that's a question which has been raised several times, I also like his game, it's fluid not like "big hitters" usually.

Overall I would say I guess he looks like a loser, and MTFers don't like losers, they're not much lenient :p

RIboy probably and hopefully lost a fortune betting on him, samanosuke just wants to prove the world he was right about Marin that he will never do anything big ( ) while the others are probably just bothered by him being a calm guy who only goes by his business and occasionally beats their favs, so when he loses they have to heal their frustrations.

Marin was solid and I am happy he won, but some people are reacting as if he def. Djokovic or even Clayking Nadul. Isner is way overrated, especialy on clay, as soon as the ball was in play Cilic had the upper hand, especially in the bh rallies, if you ask me there is no way Isner can match him of the ground; and Marin grew up playing 90% of the time on clay, he knows how to slide on this surface and does not look like a clown on clay. He did win the juniors title in Roland Garros..

He has been showing way better form since Munich, and Del Potro will be a good test...

If only he had the guts to change the serving mechanics in the off season, he will never be a contender with the sick low 1st serve percentage; probably the only tall guy whose serve is not his 1st weapon...

Ajmo Marinkooooooooooooooo

05-09-2012, 02:26 PM
Isner is overrated on clay because he beat the arrogant and boring Swiss in DC but it's not a feat to beat this guy on clay, even Gulbis did it !!!
Moreover Cilic is in good form, he reached Munich's final so it's not a big suprise

Great result. Serve apart, Cilic is a much better player than Isner. But serve alone makes Isner an incredibly fearsome opponent, so it's a fantastic win for Marin.

It's good to see him play well, I want to see him in the top 10 at the end of the year.

Isner really had no clue with the movement on the smurf turf.

Once Cilic got the strategy of hitting behind Isner working, you could see it coming every point. Isner could not move at all on this surface. I don't remember seeing him miss a shot - and he wasn't needing to go for much - towards the end of the second set. Still, Isner cannot DF in a tiebreak once, much less twice.

Cilic is a tough match up for Isner, cause he starts moving him around from shot no1. Isner prefers playing pushers and grinders who give him time to unleash his forehand

You almost never say something postive about Marin. Even when he plays a great match you don't give him full credit for that. 99% of the time you are insulting him, laughing at him or writing slliy jokes about him. I don't even know what he did to be hated like this on MTF. All his haters are bunch of pathetic ppl.

How the fuck i didn't say anything positive about him when i gave him a credit for winning two tie breaks against probably the best tie break player currently ?

With all the due respect (very little, if any) you can check all threads about Marin and you'll see that I also don't always post when he wins. I have a beautiful wife, 3 great and healthy kids, live in one of the greatest city in the world, have interesting and successful friends, and enough disposable income to do what I want, so I don't have enough time to read every insulting post that you write about Marin, please accept my apologies for that.

I come here because I love tennis and there are some great posters whose comments I love to read. Some are very knowledgeable and some are funny. You are neither.

Just proves what a talentless serve bot Isner is. No groundgame whatsoever.
