Madrid in Europe!?

OK, it's nearly midnight. There is still (again!) no order of play for tomorrow - Wednesday!
This was happening the other days too, already!
Today there's no livescore for several hours!? (This is unliKely even for challengers nowadays.)
How many players complained already about surface...
Well I can carry on!
Over 3.000.000 € in prize fund.
Are you kidding me, worst event EVER of this kind!

Well it is interesting. Media write about Madrid Masters because of blue clay like never before, Tiriac can only say : "Mission accomplished". What sells is good, baby.

Problems with livescore are rare and schedule was posted at normal time, so that´s no big deal.

OOP has been out for hours and hours. their website is shit, we've knew that for years. All info needed is on the atp site anyway, I never visit tournament sites.

As for the livescores, they lost their internet, it's not their fault. Someone can lose their internet at any time, it happens, shit happens.

the only thing wrong is the garbage clay, which Monte Carlo has too

Look man, I ain't gonna defend thread title, but imagine a whole city without internet for several hours!?
In this particular case this "city" feels like the whole World as there are so many people intrested.
Now this situation was not even helped much with Twitter or anything similar which led certain people to provide false info.Probably highlight of the day was Berloq-Granollers match.

Tennis in 2012, folks.

Slams have really good webistes, masters often so-so; anyway, the official ATP site usually has all you need, no big deal :)

I think there has been a similar thread for the last 5 or 6 Masters. Apparently they are all equally atrocious and should be demoted.

I'm sorry but they're not complete retards, if they lose their internet there is always somebody there who can use a smart phone or at worst they can phone up someone and make him give regular updates. How a tournament of this importance managed to completely lose contact with the exterior world for hours and hours is unbelievable. Their official site is a joke : is this not their fault either? The whole organization is terrible.

Madrid is truly bad though. When you see Nadal himself trying to skip a master 1000 on clay in Spain year after year you know something is going terribly wrong. All this is made worse by the retarded claims the tournament made that it was going to take RG's place as a slam when they started it.

They said they changed the court colour to match the title sponsor. Fine. But now we have blue courts, aqua signage, red seats, a grey stadium and yellow schweppes fridges. Not to mention those disastrous yellow and red bows everywhere.

The entire experience is fucking ugly and bad feng shui.

I know their website is terrible. but a terrible website makes a tournament the worst of this kind? I don't even use tournament websites, all infor needed is always on the ATP site anyway so it's not a big deal.

As for losing contact they didn't. You could still watch 2 courts, betting sites had scores from a 3rd court. And we did get some updates.

It's not ideal but it's not the worst situation for someone in that case. It could have been worse.

Tiriac turns into shit everything he touches. That said, the idea of a Master 1000 in Madrid was doomed to fail in the first place, it isn't an adequate location for serious tennis.

For me personally I hate this tournament. I have a thing against tournaments that just 'buy' a big spot on the calendar without building up a tradition and the actual tournament itself.

The tournaments with history are the ones the players care for. This tournament has taken tennis for me and gone to the stage of it not being about the tennis. The blue courts, the model ball boys/girls, it is just one tacky thing after another and it doesn't add anything to the sport. It just makes it feel like a glorified exho or a stage production.

For me personally a few of the masters series tournaments are like this now and I still get more excited over Queens than them because of the history and the balance of mixing the tradition with entertainment.

Add to that the scoreboard failing, general feel of unhappiness from players, moving of the final because of football and this tournament is just a big fat meh for me.

nothing to do with the website. this tournament sucks so much that the majority of players have expressed their distaste, going as far as criticizing the ATP for allowing it to exist. fans are not happy, it has the dumbest surface of the entire calandar season, etc etc etc.

I mean you're in denial if you don't recognize what a failure this tournament is

It is a terrible tournament I agree, but not because of a shitty website and a few hours of lost internet.

it's mainly shitty because of the awful clay. Monte Carlo also had awful clay a couple weeks ago and MTF was calling for their demotion too

It happens every tournament, MTf calls it shit and wants demotion to a 500 or a 250. MTF just exaggerates everything. it's bad but when the next tournament starts that will be bad too

Tradition means nothing. Look at Muggy Carlo. That tournament should never ever be a 1000

Though I feel I need to add if Gilles Simon wins Madrid then it is obviously the GOAT 1000 and amazing lol

I heard there were tons of problems in the media department as well with poor attention to press.. lack of organization as well as leaving journalists in the players locker room area without survailance (which is something that not even in a 250 happens! players arent taken care of well). I am not happy with the tournament overall either

I think all masters 1000's should be made non mandatory, like MC - then we can see what players really think of them

MC this year boasted all top players (except Fed), #1 vs #2 in final.

Let's make events like Mugdrid, Shitghai and Paris non mandatory - I'd love to see everyone withdrawing from them to show just how crap they are.

Chirag

Paris is fine to me,its one of my favourate events .The other 2 along with IW and Miami should be non mandatory so that players can skip them :p

MC needs to become mandatory too
