Ok we have all 4 grandslams completed for this season. Out of the four, which did you think was the best slam this year? in terms of great matches and entertainment?

Also which do you think was the best overall grandslam match of the year?

For me, i really enjoyed the AO, great matches such as:
canas - henman
federer - nalbandian
roddick - safin
safin - agassi
I did like the french open, but in terms of the quantity of good matches i preferred the AO.

My favourite match was probably the safin/agassi/roddick matches from AO, or the coria - gaudio final.

I agree, I was about to vote for RG but then I realised there were better matches at the AO.

im gona say wimby cos i never got to see all the classic 5 setters and the like at AO and the final (which i did manage 2 c) was a total letdown. i thought wimbledon was great. especially the wicked final. maybe its just cos i was able to watch all of wimby from a deckchair in portugal!

wimby was so close, it was a tough fight and my guy won :)
nothing beat that feeling as seeing Roger The Contortionist bend backwards on match point....

I agree about the AO, I think it had the best matches, it was totally worth staying up all night to watch some of them, especially all Safin's matches, except the final, and Nalbandian-Federer, Canas-Henman were great as well.

RG did have some good matches, but most did not like up to the expectations, apart from the final. Same with Wimbledon. The US Open had one or 2 good matches, but it just seemed there were so many top players out and most of the games were quite boring and one sided, and i did not get to see much of Federer-Agassi becuase of Tim Henman :fiery:

I vote for Roland Garros,
Gaudio - Coria was probably one of the most exiting matches ever

AO was the most exciting, close matches on both sides of the draw. All the favourites doing well and basically knocking each other out, no one injured etc

I think this year's french open final is going to be a classic, but, more like chang's victory over lendl in the 1989 french open, with the cramping and underhand serve, or the steffi hingis french open final.

Definitely Aus. Open.

Agassi/Safin match was the best of 2004.

I voted for RG without reading the thread first, and after doing so I read it and realized that yes, I did totally blank on the good matches in Australia.

i voted without reading too...and now i think that the AO was the best, i totally blanked on it before...though the wimbledon final was also a good one

I was there for the AO and overall there were better matches, there than the French, but that FO final will never be forgotten for the dramatic nature of the match.

Canas/Henman was a great match, especially being there in a very packed crowd, and being one of the few to cheer on Canas amongst a lot of English backpackers.

Safin/Roddick was a great match, because of the result and it was a good standard as well. Safin/Agassi had to see that one on the TV unfortunately.

Other 5 setters I saw were Pavel/Novak a high quality match, Corretja/Ancic, and Canas/Calleri. The Reid/Sargsian one was a tough one as well.

AO for sure
there were so many good matches and to see Safin comeback like that after injury was fantastic!!

AO- this was the tournament where most of the cream-of-the-crop players played each other and it provided some humdingers. Of special note Marat's matches against Andy and Andre and Roger's matches vs Hewitt (classic!), Nalbandian and Ferrero. The only pity was the final was a bit of a let-down.

If you could have a grandslam with all the matches leading up to the final like they were in AO, and a final which is a real dogfight like RG or Wimb, then it would be perfect.

I didn't see much of the Aussie Open because of the time difference between Germany and Melbourne (and having to work, so not many late nights!), so voted for the French Open because the Eurosport coverage was about the best of any of the Slams, so I saw a lot more matches. Plus of course that classic final, Henman's great run, Safin's mooning etc :) .
