Definately the Red Sox blah. I wasn't familiar with either Kim or Lleyton on a personal level, so I have no idea how their relationship was - only how the media made it look. I do, however, know enough about baseball (the very little that I know!) to know that the Red Sox coming back from 0-3 against the Yankees is truly unbelievable :p

I am very grieved by Kim and Leyton split; the loving ruptures are painful but frequent in the real life.
The big come back of the Rex Sox in NY land, being 0-3 down, has belonged the most significant event of this month by the historic record, and of course after the trade of Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1918, and that supposed curse. :yeah:

kim and lleyton ended up their relationship of course!!!

ok, the most dramatic, kinda related to tennis thing is the kimmy/lleyton break, but most historic best outside of tennis thing would be the Red Sox coming back and winning.

Lleyton and Kim will be back together in no time. Absence makes the potato grow fonder.

This recent ALCS loss was just a minor blemish amidst the 26 World Series titles the Yankees have acquired in the past century. :p  ;)

The whole OMG-Venus-Williams-lost-a-match thing is so passé. ;)

Yep, the real story was those models. Models as ball girls. Who wouldathunkit?!

I agree with you.
I think the Lleyton and Kim split up was sudden and surprising to fans but most people never knew much about their relationship or even their personal lifes and therefore this breakup shouldn't be too surprising. As for me, all I knew was that they were getting married and if one of them is injured or in a slump and can't get far in tournaments, she or he was seen at the other person matches.

As for the Venus and Sharapova match, it is no secret that Venus hadn't defeated a top ten player all year and I don't know why her fans or detractors of Maria expected her to start now just because in recent weeks Maria herself hadn't being playing top tier events with top players.

As a Red Sox fan, I am so estatic for them in coming back from 0-3 and defeating the Yanks, but from the time I stated following this rivalry (which is not too long), nothing can cease to surprise me anymore.

Now, the real headline is in Madrid. I never imagine in my wildest dream that models will be used as ball kids in any tournament. I for one expects Tennis to modernize in order to compete with other sports but the first thing I expected was the use of instant replay or shotspot or similar technology but I never expected them to "sex up" just to appeal to an audience or whatever their motives were.

i voted "Red Sox" bec i'm a newyorker and bec it's such a huge story. but the most dramatic "tennis" story for me is the models as ballkids -- who woulda thunk it? folks break up and make up all the time -- Kim & the Potato are just another love story IMO but i can understand why they are winning the poll bec folks invest soooo much of their own emotions in the lives of well-known people.

The model replacing ballboys thing - it´s crap...
Is that the way they want to get more people to the tournements..??? Crazy!
Who ever came up with that should be ashamed. And them odels doing it should be aswell.

Hey now. The New York accent is and will always be way sexier than that of Bostonians!

Leo

What I find more surprising than the fact that Boston came back from 0-3 down to beat New York is that it never happene before in post-season play! Where are all the great baseball comebacks? Non-existent, apparently.

 Well my mom's lived in Bahston long enough so that she pretty much lost her NY accent. Plus she was from upstate so it wasn't as bad to begin with. She was very adamant that I would not have a Boston accent when I grew up, so she would yell at me when I was like 8 and would come home from school and told her that they actually taught us to say "doctah" :haha:...so, my accent sort of just nonexistent. Except I do love my 'wicked' as an adverb.... like, it was WICKED AWESOME that the Sox beat the Yanks in NY ;)

Leo
10-23-2004, 05:56 PM
They teach you to speak with a Boston accent? :o

Indeed it was wicked awesome! :D Being from the New York area, I can't stand the media and the public's obsession with the Yanks.

Deboogle!.
10-23-2004, 05:59 PM
Well when the teacher is from Boston and they're teaching you phonics, you learn it the way the teacher says it. Y'know, when you're 8 and don't know the difference...but when you go home and New Yorker mom has a canniption fit when she hears you day "doctah"..... you learn fast ;)

I don't think people not from Boston or NY have a grasp on how big a story that is. I love Lleyton and Kim and am  about the news.... but there's no way that's a bigger deal than the Sox. As the commentator on Fox said after Game 7, "every New Englander will remember where they were when the Sox beat the Yanks in game 7 IN NY after being down 0-3, going extra innings in 2 games and winning the other 2 away in NY" - people just don't understand ;) Heck I don't even LIKE baseball....but I think it's in your blood to hate the Yanks if you're from Boston  Of course, we're gonna go lose the Series, so in the end it won't even matter :o

Leo
10-23-2004, 06:04 PM
I'm just happy the the Yanks won't win and neither will a Texan team "led" by a pitcher I hate for his assholishness (Houston and Clemens). So I'll be happy with either Boston or St. Louis winning, but I'd definitely rather it be Boston to cut the "curse" crap.

MisterQ
10-23-2004, 06:12 PM
I might actually root for Boston in this one... *gulp*

But that is subject to change. ;)

I saw one Yank holding up a sign that said "Babe Ruth may be dead but his curse lives on." That sort of upset me. I don't think he'd like to be remembered for some silly curse but rather for his amazing achievements and contributions to the sport. Oh well, maybe I'm over-reacting.

Deboogle!.
10-23-2004, 06:17 PM
I understand what you mean..... but unfortunately when it comes to the Sox and the Yanks all semblances of tact and common courtesy go out the window lol hence the sad need for helmeted riot police ON THE FIELD during one of the games :o

gotta be kim & lleyton, altho the baseball was also highly shocking

Leo
10-23-2004, 06:23 PM
Very true, unfortunately. And it's not just the fans. Look at the actual players, coaches, and managers. A-Rod trying to cheat (It was my running motion!). :o And Don Zimmer running his old ass onto the field to take out Pedro Martinez. :o  Oh, how this silly rivalry provides entertainment for all those that dislike the sport. :D

Although, at least it is an actual, competitive rivalry unlike some "rivlaries" that are publicized in tennis... ;)

Deboogle!.
10-23-2004, 06:28 PM
;) It is, but yet it isn't... if you looked at their total matches played, it's very close. I think Boston has won 27 of 52 meetings since last year. But typically it's always been the Yanks in the ALCS, and really that's all that matters. So it's actually much more one-sided than the overall #'s would lead you to believe. hence why it was SUCH a big deal that we won this ALCS ;)

Sort of like the only matches that really matter between Andy and Roger are the ones that are Semis and finals of big tournaments. People will remember that Roger beat him in Wimby and Toronto and they might remember that Andy beat him in Montreal but I don't think anyone will remember that he beat him in Sydney or Basel. (I know this makes sense in my head:o)

The Kim/Lleyton breakup was a shock, for sure, but then, their engagement was so long that I began to wonder if somebody was having second thoughts.

However, as a New York New Englander, to me, the Red Sox coming back from 0-3 and beating the Yankees (first time that's happened in MLB history!) is an even more (delightful) shock and I'm still on a high from it and probably will be for a whole year. :smoke: I even made a smilie to honor my hometeam. :)

The models come second for me. I voted other cause it was great to see Barichello take pole position in his home GP. In the past 11 years he only made it to the finish three times in Brasil and now he got a pole :)
