What's wrong with Andy?

He pulled out of Stockholm, and is strongly rumored to be pulling out of Paris due to a knee injury. Anyone know if he is playing in Houston and
Davis Cup?

Andy's fine. The 'knee soreness' is his way of resting up and training for Houston and DC. He has officially pulled out of Stockholm, but not Paris yet (although he probably will).

Andy Withdraws from Stockholm
by: Sarah Alvanipour

10/20/2004 --

In an effort to conserve his energy and continue his preparations for two important year-end events, the Tennis Masters Cup, and of course, the Davis Cup Finals, Andy has elected to withdraw from the Stockholm Open which is slated to begin next Monday, October 25 in the Swedish capital.

This was a decision, which was made after careful consideration of a variety of factors by Andy and his team, and was thought to be in Andy’s best interest.

This will give Andy an opportunity to continue resting this elbow and knee and to recharge before he begins the final leg of the ATP Circuit’s fall season, which for him as well as some other players, has been extended into December. The short off-season makes for one tough task for these players since they return to competition less than one month after the Davis Cup finals, leaving little time for recuperation.

Although fans may be disappointed, they will find comfort in the fact that Andy is taking proper measures to ensure his health, avoiding the grind that can cause injuries and burnout, a similar decision made by other players in the past as well.

I think that he's doing the right thing if he is indeed focussing on Davis Cup.

Wonder what this means for the rankings? Lleyton could take advantage of this and vault himself to #2 if he puts in a nice showing the next few weeks. He doesn't have Davis Cup to worry about, so why not play all you can 'til TMC Houston and rest up for next January?

Or is it mathematically impossible for him to overtake Roddick?

Deboogle!.
10-23-2004, 07:22 PM
darnyelb, it's not mathematically impossible AT ALL, in fact it's highly probable.

Lleyton is playing Paris and Houston. Andy is 43 points ahead. if Lleyton even gets to the semis at Paris he would overtake Andy by a couple points (if Andy doesnt play, which it looks like he won't). Then it would come down to simply who does better in Houston. If Lleyton were to win or make the finals at Paris, he would have a nice lead over Andy, making it very hard for him to be #2. Conversely, if Andy does play Paris and does decently or if Lleyton loses very early, it would look pretty good for Andy. But, Andy says he doesn't care about that, that he only cares about DC. Personally I think that's BS because being #3 would mean a good chance of having to face Roger in semis instead of finals, that's a big deal for him considering he says he wants to try to get back to #1 next year. But he's a big boy and has to make his own decisions :o

Amanda, we're talking about Q wearing Daisy Dukes :scared: LOL

When Andy loses DC he will then kick himself so hard he'll have another injury (very probable). :o
