Getting walloped by Sweeting can only be a knockout blow.

But I will say one thing, when Sweeting is playing aggressive he really is a great player.

However well Sweeting played, this shows it's really high time to hang up the racket, James.
Not so much talking about the result, but rather about the scoreline. Which is :tape: for a former top-10 player.

blake had to be injured. that and he has lost his touch on hard courts.

This is sad.

I have a feeling we might see Roddick and Hewitt suffering these sort of losses soon. Makes me sad to see old faves struggling. It was his first match this year though so let's see....

44 minute match. Painful to sit through. Blake with limited movement. He looked extremely uncomfortable. Back stiff? No energy. Barely a warmup for Sweeting.

With scorelines like this one Blake is probably going to join Chucho and Gonzo this year.

Good point. He reminds me of Ebden when he is playing well.
But...James

Low on matches or not, 2 games VS Sweeting is Hall of Shame material.

I think a bagel from sweeting says it's time to retire for James... I mean to lose serve entirely in one set to a returner like Sweeting :o

Yup. Doesn't happen often, of course.

These are Nadal like- indoor scores James. You should hang it up.

James

He lost to Nole last year in Miami with the same score (reverse set scores) 6-2,6-0. Losing to the then world #2 and current world #1 with that sort of scoreline is expected, but to lose to someone ranked #78 winning only 2 games...

Maybe time to hang up the racquet, injuries have really stuffed him up big time, such a shame. :(

James if you have any pride left;as much as you'd love to continue to play tennis;there comes a point when a former world # 4 although one who has NEVER won a MS;NEVER made a slam semifinal;NEVER won a title off hard courts to walk away.THIS is THE time

scoreline and general situation reminds me of when moya played against benji becker on clay in spain and could barely win a game

retired some weeks later

Guess being injured only works to explain results in Nadal's case.
Though I suppose this is a different situation considering James was actually, you know, injured and will have to play a few matches to get his timing back.

Please. Blake has always been injured whenever he loses.

kind of like the bullcrap excuse "these older americans were really stressed out and in need of match play" after banging vacuous women then skipping clay tourneys and avoiding federer.
